Only 45% of Americans age 50 and older say they're likely to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine this season, according to a poll today from the University of Michigan.
The poll shows many at high risk of severe illness appear unlikely to seek the vaccine, and interest in an updated vaccine varies widely by age-group, education level, and other factors.
The results come from the National Poll on Healthy Aging conducted in August. At the time of polling, new COVID vaccines were not yet widely available, but they had been approved for use and endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Among adults 75 and older, 59% said they were likely to get the updated COVID-19 shot, with 49% of them saying they’re very likely and 10% saying they're somewhat likely. Among adults 65 to 74, 51% said they were likely to get the vaccine.
Level of education plays a role Among those aged 50 to 64, more said they were unlikely to get the new vaccine; 55% unlikely, compared with 37% likely.
In 2023, nearly half of all US COVID hospitalizations were among those ages 75 and older.
The poll showed demographic differences as well. Adults with a Bachelor's degree were more likely to get vaccinated—54%, compared with 41% of those with lower levels of education. Overall, women were slightly more likely than men to say they would be vaccinated.

Well, you’re right. The shots made things worse.
Ditto to you.
Your guinea pig got me thinking.
Apparently some batches of jab were more dangerous than others. I always assumed that was a manufacturing issue, or that there was intent to off some red staters.
Maybe it wasn’t that, maybe they mixed up different batches, just to see what would happen. Maybe they wanted that info for future reference.
Josef Mengele, pick up the blood red courtesy phone.
After 100 posts, nothing from the usual shills.
Agree.
“Only” 45%?
That’s 45% too many!
Well, you’re right. The shots made things worse.

The credit is due to my wise old country doctor who I consulted at the time of my annual physical in 2019 about whether to take or not take the shot. He said straight away he was not taking the shot because he would never consider doing so unless the injection had at least a five year safe and effective history behind it. However, once the pharmaceutical houses got their blanket immunity grant from the government, it was Katy Bar the Door. First, they scared the hell out of everyone in an attempt to get everyone to take their experimental injection. Then they quickly went to their computers and came up with what they called a ‘warp speed’ mRNA gene therapy shot that short circuited the developmental time frame process they knew was necessary. Worse yet, this quick ‘fix’ computer engineered ‘therapy’ was designed to fool the body’s immune system to become an antigen (think spike protein) generating factory which can overwhelm the immune system, and cause it to turn on itself. Once compromised, all sorts of opportunistic diseases can arise. None of it is ‘accidental.’ mRNA has a horrific history going back to animal testing experiments where most if not all the animals eventually died.
I don’t get flu shots either, not since the second one during the early 80’s. Got sick pretty bad, bed ridden for over a week. Haven’t had the flu since. I believe getting the flu helped my immune system, unlike the bs shot.
Right. What ever happened to “question authority”? I am one suspicious person and question just about everything.
My next door neighbors both have COVID right now.
I had it during the pandemic. At 70+ years old, it was barely noticeable. My wife, however, almost died.
