Gunman who killed 10 at Colorado supermarket in 2021 convicted of murder

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 25, had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The jury instead found the Syria-born man, guilty in Boulder District Court on 10 counts of first-degree murder.

In Colorado, a first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Had Alissa been found not guilty by reason of insanity, he would have been sent to the state psychiatric hospital, with any release from that facility requiring a judge's approval.

It was never in dispute that Alissa carried out the rampage

....

Authorities said Alissa was armed with a legally purchased Ruger AR-556 pistol, which resembles an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, when he entered the King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, about 30 miles (50 km) northwest of Denver, on March 22, 2021.

Alissa shot dead two people in the parking lot before entering the store and killing eight others, including a police officer who responded to the shooting.

"He is methodical and he is brutal," District Attorney Michael Dougherty told jurors in closing arguments.

...

Sarah Chen, a pharmacist working that day, testified during the trial that she heard Alissa shriek with delight as he fired his weapon as she and other workers crouched behind a counter.

"He said, 'This is fun, this is so much fun,'" Chen testified.

Alissa was born in Syria and his family emigrated to the United States when he was a small child and settled in a Denver suburb.

Most of the victims were women

Responding Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, 51, was the first law enforcement agent to arrive at the King Soopers when he was killed. Talley was a father of seven and an 11-year veteran of the Boulder police force.

The other victims were Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.

Alissa, who lived in the Denver suburb of Arvada, purchased an assault weapon six days before the attack, according to an arrest affidavit.

“Trial should have been wrapped up within 3 weeks. How can this be considered “justice?””

In the 1800’s the trial would have been held within days of the accused being arrested and he would likely have died by hanging within a week of the completion of the trial.

The Constitution guarantees the right of a speedy trial. Perhaps the convicted murderer will appeal on the grounds his right to a speedy trial was denied.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa

Guilty of murder and arabic alliteration.

Four a's = not z.

Perhaps he will repent and come to Jesus. God's miracles are many and surprising.

Now, now. You would begin thinking there is a pattern between radical Muslims and Muslim cultural domination and control.

/The Bush-Obama-Biden-Harris FBI and DHS have been warning us for years that the highest threat to the United States are conservative Christian white male Pro-Life Christian and Roman Catholic activists.

A third grade classmate (60yrs back), Karen Lyle’s dad was shot dead responding to a hold up at a grocery store in Menlo Park, Ca.
I used to shop at King Soopers/Boulder while at CU in the early 70’s.

We really need to bring back the electric chair. The death penalty should be FEARED, not humane. Murderers are not humane, and neither should their end be.

Agree! Death penalty for drug dealers too. Especially the ones peddling fentanyl-laced drugs.
We need to go SINGAPORE on these people.
