The tropical system which would be Helene is developing in the Western Caribbean Sea. The storm is forecast to strengthen and move into the Gulf of Mexico.
Interests along the Eastern GOM coast should monitor the progress of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, and additional watches or warnings could be required later tonight or tomorrow. Hurricane Hunters initiated flights to the storm system this morning.

Here in central Florida , I keep hearing something on an outside wall banging against the house. I think it might be the cover for the stove’s exhaust fan. Hopefully it sounds worse than it actually is. According to my phone app, we are having winds of 24 mph with gusts to 47 mph.
From North Carolina....
And WFLA just reported that if Helene continues racing along at its current speed, 23 MPH, it could hit metro Atlanta still at hurricane strength.
Continuing prayers for all in harm’s way.
Maybe it is mama raccoon and her brood asking for a place to have dinner and sleep for the night.
i’m seeing that on your radar... it’s gonna be fun tonight...
Looks like a cat 4 on radar and satellite to me
No recon in there right now but another plane will be in there shortly
I suspect the pressure is now in the mid 940mb
STEADY LIGHT RAIN here in NORTH Georgia.
Wow! I love that story! Thank you for sharing it! You are so Blessed to live there, and such a wonderful Blessing to those birds.
I used to share a crabbing spot with a one-legged great egret in South Carolina. He was a crusty old guy, but would stand right next to me grabbing the crabs I missed. I adored him.
I hope and pray you and your beautiful bird friends make it through this okay. I can never help thinking about all the birds and wildlife during these storms, and always say a prayer for them.
Okay, now you’ve done it. Now I am looking up how to make Cicolatta Calda.
Get ready...”Our Father, which art in Heaven...”
Likely. I have an interior bathroom with a fart fan that has a flap on the roof. Also, attic doors might "bounce" with the pressure changes in high winds.
946mb pressure now. This is gonna get crazy!
RE: Cicolatta Calda
I posted the recipe in this thread here:

It was calm for a while out here on the beach, but that wind changed to the south something fierce and in a hurry. 48kt sustained with 65kt gusts according to my little weather station.
These are the winds which will escort the serious storm surge.
around 30 miles by the way the crow flies...
