THAT ALONE SHOULD RE-ELECT TRUMP AND DEFEAT HARRIS!
I live in SoCal and this is happening more and more. You have to push a button to summon an employee. If you’re lucky, an employee will show up to unlock the case. (No guarantee they show up.) You tell the employee what you want to buy and they bring it up to the counter. When you’re ready to check out, you tell the cashier that that’s your item and you buy it.
So in other words, we honest people have to go to a lot of inconvenience because so many a-holes steal. Instead of locking up the merchandise, they should lock up the thieves. But no, thieves waltz out with arms full of stuff and nothing happens to them.
Soon to come to a store near you, if it hasn’t already.
Well, it’s Compton. Every little store in town has bandit barriers between the customers and the workers and registers.
This is just an evolutionary step.
Yes, recently I wanted to buy mascara. I wanted to compare the prices, the colors, which mascaras were hypoallergenic, etc. Well, all the cosmetics were behind plexiglass. I wasn’t about to summon an employee to stand there for ten minutes while I examined all the different brands. So I just didn’t buy it. I told the manager, “Maybe nobody is stealing your cosmetics anymore, but nobody will be buying them, either.”
I really don’t see this system working for long. Pretty soon everything will be ordered online. Of course, then there’s the porch pirates.
Our country is just going to crap.
Rite Aid can improve their bottom line by simply shuttering that store. I doubt it’s profitable.
when i watched the link, it merged into a second ABC television report... this one about a juvenile gang trashing, turning over a 7/11 grocery store in a traditionally-good, safe, rather upscale neighborhood of Los Angeles (Beverlywood-Pico/Robertson, adjacent to Beverly Hills)
with a shocking video clip of the “action”
there’s a super-serious problem, folks. it is hard to believe youngsters could go so far off the Live Success Track
Let’s get through our thick skulls, people.
CRIMINALS HAVE RIGHTS! /s
Why bother keeping the store open?
People will shop elsewhere because of this.
...or online.
“Why is the legality of theft a topic of discussion?”
Only because we have bleeding heart liberals who side with the criminals. These are the people who become our prosecutors, DAs, AGs, and judges. They argue to “reduce prison crowding” and let criminals out of prison. They refuse to build more prisons because we “have too many people locked up.” It’s a perverse logic they use to justify letting criminals out of prison because we won’t build more prisons because too many people are in prison. That self-defeating “logic” will always lead to lots of criminals in our midst robbing, assaulting, raping, and murdering. To these people, the rights of criminals are 1,000 times more important than the rights of law abiding citizens who pay taxes, contribute to society and expect to live in a safe society.
California - where they lock up the products and let criminals run free.
Don't get mad at the store, be angry with the lowlifes that are causing the store to take these actions. The stores have a right to defend their property.
RE: Locking up the merchandise.
Better idea would be locking up the criminals.
Letting them go if the total stolen property is under a threshold, telling police to just let them leave in their suvs with the goods, allowing no bail or low bail, letting juvenile offenders get off with mercy and brief jail time with time served all allow the criminals to be loose while the merchandise and good citizens’ right to shop are locked down.
Exactly.
“I’m continuing to shift more of my purchases to Amazon. It takes seconds to order, the selection is bigger, and almost everything arrives within 24 hours.”

Temu is much much cheaper than zon. Takes about 12 days. If you specify ship by sea, prices are around 30% less though it takes much longer, say 35 days.
Racist!
“It takes seconds to order, the selection is bigger, and almost everything arrives within 24 hours.”
That must be in the Bay Area? Here I sometimes get 2 day, but it’s sometimes a week, too, especially if Amazon is not the shipper. Don’t think I have ever received a shipment over night. Yes, I have Prime.
Yeah, but if we didn’t do all those things to coddle the criminals then they might get mad and there’s no telling what they might do. They might even ramp up their retail theft to big rampages in stores where they smash the cases and steal everything in sight in huge bags. Then where would we be?
That’s my experience in both the Bay Area and here in the Hayden, ID area. Great service in both places. It probably helps that they opened that huge fulfillment center GEG2 just 21 miles from us.
In Calif there is Prop 36 which will bring back felonies for stealing and drug selling and using. It has over 70% support plus the Los Angeles DA Gascon is expected to lose by a wide margin in the election in Nov. He has over 14,000 criminal cases pending and has not charged thousands more. He was a DA in San Francisco before moving. He is one of Soros DA’s.
