Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is barreling forward with a Wednesday evening vote on a six-month spending bill despite its expected defeat.
Johnson announced during the August recess that he would pair the six-month continuing resolution with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, in part to mollify conservatives — many of whom oppose continuing resolutions out of principle.
However, once returning to Washington, DC, the speaker appears to have been caught off guard by opposition from multiple corners of the House Republican Conference, including conservatives, leading him to delay the originally scheduled vote by a week.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) publicly opposed the measure because it would allegedly have a negative impact on defense spending, with other defense hawks expected to follow his lead. A handful of members opposed pairing the SAVE Act with the spending bill. Multiple members of the House Appropriations Committee opposed the six-month length, preferring a three-month bill, which would give appropriators and Democrats the chance to pass a massive omnibus during a lame-duck session of Congress.

Not so sure about that, scumbag Johnson will pull the SAVE act and then the GOPe working with dems will force this on us, pile on the debt and so forth.
“”””during the August recess that he would pair the six-month continuing resolution with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act”””
GOP House passed the SAVE ACT several months ago knowing that it would never get passed by the Democrat Majority Senate.
Until recently there has been little to no chatter from the GOP about the possibility millions of non-citizens have been registered to vote.
I guess the next thing we will hear from the GOP is this-—
You all need to elect GOP House, Senate, and White House so we can be a majority and fix things next year.
Well. I hate to tell the GOP that if millions of non-citizens have been registered to vote, there will be no GOP winners in November 2024.
I thought we were done with budget CRs?
I’ve said it many times. I’ll say it again.
The GOP isn’t interested in “winning”.
They are perfectly happy being the abused also rans.
Perfectly happy being the Washington Generals.
Judas Johnson can go pound sand! A real disappointment, that guy.
