Six Department of Education employees used “forged permission slips” to take their own kids and grandchildren to Disney World and on other city-funded trips meant for homeless students, investigators alleged.
The secret perks robbed some of the city’s most disadvantaged kids of a chance to enjoy the Magic Kingdom — a trip that cost $66,000 for 50 or so adults and kids, a staffer said — and other multiple-day trips in 2016 to 2019 to Washington, D.C; New Orleans; Boston; upstate Rocking Horse Ranch Resort; and Frost Valley YMCA campground, according to a newly released report by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for city schools.
Linda M. Wilson, a Queens supervisor of DOE’s “Students in Temporary Housing,” took her own two daughters on trips, and encouraged colleagues to take their sons, daughters and grandkids, but tried to cover up the shady practice when SCI started asking questions, the SCI report said. “What happens here stays with us,” Wilson allegedly told co-workers.
“She said everyone should stick to the same story that we did not take our children on the trip,” an employee told The Post. “She told us to lie to the investigators.”
While some homeless students attended the trips, the staffers’ kids took up valuable spots.
One DOE educator “had to beg Wilson to allow him to add two of his students” on a trip to Disney World while Wilson and several staffers she supervised brought family members, the SCI said.
“Taking money meant for homeless students is extremely inappropriate,” said Naveed Hasan, a Manhattan public-school parent and member of the city’s Panel for Educational Policy who advocates for students in need of housing. “I’m shocked.”

The whole program was probably a scam. Set up a tax payer funded program and rape the program for the “cash” or whatever benefits they can get.
Not employed, but working elsewhere in the tax payer funded grifter world.
You got that right........buncha parasites.
I agree that money should have went towards food and shelter instead of a trip to Disney. Such a waste, but hey, when those kids are shivering from sleeping in a cardboard box this winter they can fondly remember baking in the hot Orlando sun for hours waiting for rides that last only minutes.
$$66,000 to take 50 kids (some homeless) to DISNEY WORLD????
I HAVE HEARD A LOT OF STUPID POLITICAL DECISIONS IN MY 84 YEARS-——THIS TAKES THE CAKE.
SUPERVISORS & EMPLOYEES WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO “CHEAT” IF THE IDEA DIDN’T EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE.
NO ONE ALIVE CAN CONVINCE ME THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR TAX PAYER MONEY
WE HAVE VETERANS WHO CANNOT ASSISTANCE & HOMELESS KIDS ARE BEING SENT TO DISNEY !!!!!!!!!!
JUST WHEN YOU THINK THINGS CANNOT GET ANY WORSE———
IF I READ IT RIGHT-—$66,000 for 50 == about $1300 EACH.
STILL OUTRIGHT THEFT.
WALT IS ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE
I think you’re on to something here.
Why are we wasting money on trips to Disneyland in the first place. Couldn’t that $66K have been spent on something more educational?
I guess the lucky students got a nice trip & a free lesson in dishonesty at the same time. Even now, after the fact I presume, certain people in the DOE should have been racked good for that little stunt. There still should be jail sentences for at least those who were guilty.
Yes, it sounds like there was plan behind all this.
Maybe Disney should consider paying for those Magic Kingdom trips.
Certain friends used to snicker when I used the term “ruling class” but they’re not laughing now. And incidentally, no part of this was actually intended to bring homeless kids into territory more properly populated by the entitled, it was a scheme to put $66,000 into Disney hands to make it happen. So anyone concerned that trips to Disneyland, etc, weren’t what the kids needed, be at ease - they weren’t intended to get them anyway.
I remember that.
Then it got out in the memory hole...
Yep, until their ass is caught and out before the judge but until then, it’s hard to prosecute them.
Tax evasion if none of this is reported as income.
Was it them, Yogi?.....................
Sounds like a chapter out of “Plunket Of Tammany Hall”. Over a hundred years and NYC politics have not changed a bit.
