Pope against Hamas and Israel: I do not think they are taking steps to make peace

Pope Francis on Friday decried the deaths of children in Israeli military strikes in Gaza while expressing doubt that Israel and Hamas are seeking an end to the war between them, Reuters reported.

"I am sorry to have to say this," the pope told journalists during a flight back to Rome from Singapore. "But I do not think that they are taking steps to make peace."

He added that he speaks on the phone with members of a Catholic parish in Gaza "every day" and "they tell me ugly things, difficult things".

"Please, when you see the bodies of killed children, when you see that, under the presumption that some guerrillas are there, a school is bombed, this is ugly. It is ugly," continued Pope Francis.

The pope also said that "sometimes I think it's a war that is too much, too much".

In November, Jewish groups criticized Pope Francis after he appeared to accuse both Israel and Hamas of “terrorism” in the war that started after Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel on October 7.

“This is what wars do,” the pope said at his general audience in St. Peter’s Square. “But here we have gone beyond wars. This is not war. This is terrorism.”

I would take the pope more seriously on the issue of peace once he disarmed his Swiss Guards.

I know it’s not a subject for jest, but I’ve given up hope on this Papacy.

I long for the days of Pope John Paul the Great.

This current pope cannot be taken seriously if he’s making a moral equivalency between the efforts of Israel for peace and the intractable pig headedness of the people of Gaza.

In past negotiations Israel has agreed to every single demand by the Islamists, only to be rejected time and time again.

The sticking point has always been that in any agreement between Israel and those living in Gaza, the right of Israel to exist as a nation MUST BE agreed to, and the Moslems simply will not sign the agreement.

Unless and until they are willing to agree, the whole idea of the elusive “Two State Solution” will never, ever happen, it’s pure nonsense.

The burden of peace is entirely on the Moslems, not Israel.

This is equivalent to the Pope saying Nazi Germany and the Allies haven’t done enough to bring about peace after D-Day.

A Pope who hates Israel and equates them with the terrorist HAMAS organization... Surprise, surprise

Agree. His pronouncement makes no sense at all - unless you understand he has no idea what he’s talking about. Nor does anyone blathering about “both sides must accept a 2 state solution” - no matter if they’re the Pope or anybody else...

Silly comment. The Swiss Guards are like the Secret Service. They are not a military force, and so "the issue of peace" does not pertain to them.

The only people that should care about what the Pope has to say are Catholics.

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Is the Pope Catholic Communist?
