The retiree says a local rooftop solar company and its partners forged her signature to sign her up for a loan she could not afford. If you’ve scrolled through social media lately, there’s a good chance you’ve seen an ad for rooftop solar. The latest government incentives are so generous, some ads claim, that you can get a new roof for free with the panels — and eliminate your electric bills in the process.
Claver Campbell, a 76-year-old homeowner in Queens, came across one such ad on Facebook about a year ago, she recalled. It promised a new roof and solar panels to qualifying seniors, an appealing proposition for Campbell, who was having a hard time affording her energy bills. She called the listed number and connected with a solar company she’d never heard of, called SUNco. Two days later, a salesperson named Mitchell Sims sat at her dining table, giving a detailed presentation on how much SUNco’s offer could save her. By the end of the day, there was a contract in her email inbox for a 25-year project loan. But she noticed a problem: That contract put her on the hook for $160,000 over the course of the loan, with monthly payments nearly three times higher than Sims said she’d have to pay, according to Campbell, documents, and court filings reviewed by New York Focus. It made no mention of the government programs that he’d promised would help her afford the roof and panels. Campbell maintains she never signed the contract, but it bore her e-signature. She wrote back to cancel the agreement.

A solar firm visited my elderly brother with the same offering including the new roof. The salesman was high pressure and my brother is vision impaired and not completely on target.
But, I am very protective and, no, he did not sign for this scam.
I've been watching single mommas of color crying on the news over being flooded out in N'awlins for the third time in twelve years, losing everything, when they live in section 8 houses below sea level.....cuz it's government paid rents to the owners of the properties, and how can you move to better conditions when you have to live where the government subsidies force you to live? Then you're on the plantation.
My friends the solution is simple and it involves the government I’m sad to say. Trump needs to come up with a universal contract both sides have to sign establishing guarantees the solar companies have to honor. It will show he’s looking after the public and even the chumps who buy into it. Democrats will howl for the wrong reasons and get exposed. The green movement will have to prove it’s financial viablity.
It’s a put your money where your mouth is challenge. Government coercion needs to be confronted.
Sounds like a car salesman a friend of mine dealt with in the 80’s. Got him into an office and a another large salesman stood in the door and they tried to force him to buy the car.
The solar saleman sounds like the same breed
There are plenty of those residents here and ALL of them REFUSE to work FULL TIME in order to keep their S8 subsidies. NONE of them have a good rental history. Around here you can’t say “we don’t take S8” but there are other ways to disqualify them.
Or we could go back to normalcy, aka oil, gas and coal.

That one’s easy. The government wasn’t pushing used cars.

There are plenty of landlords who prefer Section 8 tenants. Guaranteed payment. A little due diligence and they’re on easy street.
