Climate change leaves future of Pacific Islands tourism 'highly uncertain'

The Pacific Islands are scattered across a vast area of ocean, with some of the clearest waters in the world, and pristine beaches and rainforests.

They are a magnet for tourism, which is vital for many of the countries’ economies.

But the region’s travel industry, and those who rely on it, are increasingly fearful of the impact of continuing climate change.

“Pacific Island leaders have declared climate change as the foremost threat to the livelihoods, security, and well-being of Pacific communities,” says Christopher Cocker, the chief executive of the Pacific Tourism Organisation.

“Without immediate and innovative action, the future of tourism in the region remains highly uncertain.”

He adds: “All islands of the Pacific are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. However, low-lying atoll countries like Tuvalu, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia are more vulnerable.

“These islands are not only prone to inundation from rising seas, especially during king tides, but access to clean and safe drinking water is a challenge, with prolonged droughts and unpredictable rainfall patterns.”

Then there’s the threat of erratic and potentially devastating tropical storms, which are ranked from one (the weakest), to five (the strongest).

Well, Hawaii is actually growing from out of the sea floor so as it gets larger it displaces the ocean causing it to rise.

Plus the newly renamed seamount Kama’ehuakanaloa, formally known as Loihi, located on the southern flank of Moana Loa, which should reach sea level in the next 100,000 years.

So there’s that to worry about...;)

Less tourists means the islands are less likely to tip over from overcrowding. I would call this a win!

They are a dozen places on Earth below sea level, why don’t they flood them with salt water.

Why are we paying billions of dollars to fix New Orleans, as it is far below sea level, is sea level rise is a concern with fake "climate change"?

Abandon New Orleans before complaining about Pacific Islands and other cities on sea coasts that are not in danger from the oceans.

Some of the atolls the Marines fought the japs for were only a few feet above see level. They are all still there.

I grew up on a boat in San Diego and I knew for fact that the sea level had not changed significantly so I was not having any of that.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, and fished at the bay shore below drawbridges and elsewhere, almost 70 years ago. The sea level has not changed. The tide comes in, and goes out, and the levels are unchanged.

There has been no verifiable rise in sea levels.

Right now there is a massive cooling of the Atlantic. They
can’t even explain that, but they claim to have answers for
everything.

I’m not sold on any island problems. I don’t think anyone
else is either, unless you have been exposed to a Leftist
professor and his cronies.

“Pacific Island leaders have declared climate change as the foremost threat to the livelihoods, security, and well-being of Pacific communities,”

But of course. Easiest money ever made. Put on a show for the UN/WEF scam sessions and watch the millions rolling in by the thousands.

And they didn't even have to come up with the idea themselves! Plenty of NGOs to spoon feed them grievance speeches. (For a percentage fee.)

I’ve been scuba diving every year or two for more than 40 years on a spit of land in the Caribbean called Klein Curacao that’s about 20 feet above sea level at its highest point.

Try the water some time. Easier swimming. Sharks though. 😁
