Climate change leaves future of Pacific Islands tourism 'highly uncertain'
BBC News ^ | Sep 9 | Phil Mercer

The Pacific Islands are scattered across a vast area of ocean, with some of the clearest waters in the world, and pristine beaches and rainforests.

They are a magnet for tourism, which is vital for many of the countries’ economies.

But the region’s travel industry, and those who rely on it, are increasingly fearful of the impact of continuing climate change.

“Pacific Island leaders have declared climate change as the foremost threat to the livelihoods, security, and well-being of Pacific communities,” says Christopher Cocker, the chief executive of the Pacific Tourism Organisation.

“Without immediate and innovative action, the future of tourism in the region remains highly uncertain.”

He adds: “All islands of the Pacific are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. However, low-lying atoll countries like Tuvalu, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia are more vulnerable.

“These islands are not only prone to inundation from rising seas, especially during king tides, but access to clean and safe drinking water is a challenge, with prolonged droughts and unpredictable rainfall patterns.”

Then there’s the threat of erratic and potentially devastating tropical storms, which are ranked from one (the weakest), to five (the strongest).

I think this year is the hottest and then it reduces. It usually lags about 2 decades. The sun really dropped 2 decades ago, but I don’t know how the tonga explosion and this Atlantic cooling is affecting things as well.

But global warming/climate change is like that, there’s just too many variables.

Back in the earlier days of the global warming hysteria I was on a boat docked in San Diego talking to a few friends and the topic of global warming and sea rise came up.

The insisted that the oceans had risen almost foot or more since the 1970s.

I grew up on a boat in San Diego and I knew for fact that the sea level had not changed significantly so I was not having any of that.

They would not listen and insisted the seas had risen and were rising so rapidly coastal areas would soon be under water.

Their was pier close by that had been built by the WPA back in the 1930’s and along with the WPA commissioning info, they had marked the waterlines from the 1930s.

We went over and looked and the water lines had not changed significantly since the 1930s.

They still would not agree the oceans were not rising.

These were guys from Stanford, MIT and Princeton and all had PhDs’. There is something about global warming that makes otherwise sane people go crazy.

I’ve been scuba diving every year or two for more than 40 years on a spit of land in the Caribbean called Klein Curacao that’s about 20 feet above sea level at its highest point. I’ve got photos going back all those years and if the shore line has moved a foot, you can’t tell it.

It's horrible. The Caribbean has been devastated by a record number of hurricanes and tropical
storms. Vacation destinations of been washed away or blown into the sea.

Oh, wait a minute. Sorry my bad. Almost no hurricanes or tropical storms this year! Mea culpa!

Climate change is the least of their problems.

There’s the matter of governments actively trying to destroy this planet and prevent travel through crashing the economy and restricting travel.

The only reason would be the environazis and their globalist corporate puppet masters will outlaw air travel. For us, of course. Not themselves.

Well, if history is any guide the oceans will rise another 100’ before the start of the next ice age. That’s what happened 2.5 million years ago before the start of the last ice age.

There are a lot of north-south ridges in FL about 60’ above MSL. They are the shallow water reefs of the last inter-glacial period, 2.5 mya.

I guess the MSM (BBC) doesn’t realize the islands are actually ancient reefs which were once underwater. So the reefs are just returning to the natural habitat from which they originated. The mouthy interlopers, colonizers, occupiers, need to move off!

But I guess there’s more money to be made by hustling the mainlanders.

The ruling class is telling us what island paradise they intend to keep as their own.

We all know “climate change” is just a ruse to get the undesirables out of the way so the elites can keep the beaches and the skies to themselves.

Maybe they could learn from the Dutch and claim land from the sea.

That would involve sticking one's finger in a dyke.......no thanks.

If these islands are that bad off, I think the inhabitants should be moved to higher and drier place for their safety. FEMA can build them some nice trailers somewhere inland that is high and dry..In Florida they actually build houses way tall, up on posts with big stairs.
