A New York judge extended Donald Trump a political lifeline on Friday, pushing back his sentencing on his conviction for falsifying business records until after Election Day.

New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan agreed to reschedule Trump’s sentencing date from Sept. 18 until Nov, 26, removing the potential for an unprecedented legal distraction going into the home stretch of the presidential election.

I assume Merchan is doing this because he realizes it would help Trump win if he sentenced him before the election.

Of course that would have guaranteed Trump’s victory

So Trump wins the election and is scheduled to move into the WH on 1/20/2025. But before that happens, Merchan sends Trump to Rikers for 1 year. What happens then?

Maybe he’ll put Trump on house arrest and DJT will be confined to the WH?

I’m just pointing out how ridiculous this would become.

Democrats pass on nuclear option.

That signals to me the votes have been counted and the election has been stolen.

Or they have something else in mind.

“So Trump wins the election and is scheduled to move into the WH on 1/20/2025. ... “

At that point, game over. The executive branch, which would then be headed by president Trump, controls the DOJ.

So he’s going to put the President elect of the US in jail before Inauguration?

Ding! Ding! Ding!
You win first prize...

In addition, they (the communists) have probably counted the millions (among the migrant-invader vermin) who will be voting...

The NY legal “team” now realizes Trump has a very high probability of being elected president.

One minute after Trump appoints his new DOJ AG, the entire NY “team” is arrested by the feds for federal election interference all the way down to the janitors.

They just realized they’re screwed.

Dan Bongino just talked about this (12:50 pm CDT) and he said don’t celebrate it. Why? Because the judge has ordered the prosecution to give its response to Trump’s lawyers on Oct 29, only a few DAYS BEFORE the election, which can be used as a democrapt campaign ad.

Special Forces will have to rescue hostage political prisoner President Donald Trump.

If this was fiction everybody would laugh at the improbable plot.

Regardless of what Merchan decides, the best solution would be for Gov. Hochul to issue Trump a pardon. Or at least a commutation of the entire sentence. For the good of the country. It would be something like how Andrew Johnson pardoned former Confederates.

This would be a selfless and patriotic move on Hochul’s part. So of course she won’t do it.

(And yes, I know Trump didn’t do anything wrong in the first place.)

Possibly. At the same time it removes a lot of possible complications for the rest of Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Nope;

The judge realizes that if he sentenced Trump prior to the election that the Supreme Court would be asked to intervene on and emergency basis and that it would be during their end of summer recess.

If the Supreme Court has to take it up, he will have kicked a beehive and they would have “dressed him down and humiliated him.” He is smart enough to wait until all of the various cases are brought to the Supreme Court after the election.

And the immunity issue and the fact that America First Legal just field a lawsuit asking for documents about his business dealings (i.e., his daughter’s payoff from Harris).
