Nolte: Democrat-Run New York Mandates Useless Retailer Panic Buttons
Breitbart ^ | 09/06/2024 | John Nolte

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) signed a dumb law requiring some retailers to install panic buttons for store employees.

But-but-but I keep being told crime is down in America!

But-but-but I keep being told that people like myself are exaggerating the crime that’s destroying Democrat-run cities! Panic buttons are what happens when stupid voters continue to vote for failure in the form of Democrats.

“[A]mong other things,” reports Reuters, “retailers with 10 or more employees [are required] to adopt a violence prevention plan and maintain records of violent incidents for at least three years.”

A trigger is more effective. Just don’t panic.

What will the panic button do? Send a text message requesting that a licensed wellness therapist contact the person who hit it?

This is last days of the Roman Empire stuff translated to the 21st century. The sheer stupidity and incompetence that comes from culture-wide decadence.

My prediction:

Panic buttons (previously called holdup alarms) will become widespread.

Store employees will use these for various situations, some emergency and some not

Police will get too many alarms and response times will become that of 911 calls (many times 30 minutes or more)

Government will start fining stores for too many alarms

Next step: Government will require each store to hire a “Panic Button Supervisor” to determine when use of the panic button is warranted.

Memphis wants to use code enforcement judges to order the closure of businesses that have high occurrences of crime. Like that solves the problem? There is something sketchy behind it. Lawyers from all around the country have come to Memphis (University of Memphis Law School) and are targeting businesses (mostly that serve the black communities) and using lawfare to evict them using code enforcement. Last report I saw showed over 50 lawyers coordinating this effort with the law school administration and student interns.

Gas stations, restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores, etc.... Two grocery stores near me were just closed down. The city claims the sale of beer and wine is why they get robbed and customers get carjacked. Note it's not any person or individual that's a problem, it's the "environment". Guess what the code enforcement court is called? "Environmental Court", with "Environmental Court Judges" that use regulatory actions as the basis for some form of authority. NOT STATE, LOCAL, OR US CONSTITUTION LAW.

How about the old Elaine (from Seinfeld) proposal of having every citizen wear a name tag? That will surely make everyone friendlier and reduce crime. :-P

Actually Lloyd Braun had that idea, and it cost Dinkins the election.

The only “panic button” they need is the trigger on a 12 gauge.

NYPD doesn’t respond to 911 calls unless there’s an ongoing shooting or a dead body.

What will replacing 911 with a button do, other than give false comfort to those who press it and cost the small shop owner for installation/monitor services?

It’s nothing but a distraction and evasion to “do something” about rampant and tacitly approved crime sprees.

Panic buttons are violence protection? What, you push a button and magically violence goes away?
