Report: 49ers Rookie Ricky Pearsall Shot in Robbery Attempt
Niners Nation ^ | Aug 31, 2024 | Patrick Holloway and Rohan Chakravarthi

The incident was over a Rolex.

Pat’s update: Deebo indicates things are positive:

Fox-2 journalist Sal Castaneda reports that San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in a robbery attempt over his Rolex watch.

The incident occurred in downtown San Francisco reportedly near Union Square. The extent of Pearsall’s injuries or further details haven’t been disclosed as of this writing.

In a separate report, NBC Bay Area’s Gia Vang shared that Pearsall had been shot but is in stable condition while the suspect is in custody.

Pearsall was drafted in the first round by the 49ers in the 2024 NFL Draft. The wide receiver was drafted with the 49ers knowing he was recovering from a shoulder injury.

“49ers Ricky Pearsall has been shot in Union Square in an attempted robbery. According to Sup. Peskin’s office, the suspect is in custody and Ricky [Pearsall] is in stable condition,” Vang shared. “His office has been in touch with Central Command. More to come.”

The 49ers were hopeful of Pearsall’s return by Week 1, but nothing was confirmed.

This post will be updated when we receive more information.

Kyle’s update, 5:20 p.m. PT: According to the San Francisco Police Department, “Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex. He was headed to a signing event on Geary & Market. There was a struggle for the gun. Both Ricky and the suspect were shot. Both parties stable at SF General Hospital.”

Deebo Samuel says that Pearsall is OK:

Are you sure it was a black person? There are only about five left in San Francisco.

I had to look him up - due to your comment.
White Wide receivers have to be as rare as hen's teeth. Hopefully he'll recover completely and soon.

I’ll admit, no, I don’t. But I am a gambler and I like my odds.

“I’ll admit, no, I don’t. But I am a gambler and I like my odds.”

I like his odds too. A lot of the criminals (robbers, looters, pickpockets) around Union Square & the Embarcadero on weekends come into the city on BART from Oakland, Richmond etc.

White Wide receivers have to be as rare as hen's teeth.

The Rams' Cooper Kupp won the receiving triple crown a few years ago (most catches, most yards, most TDs). The Rams other star receiver, Puka Nacua, is of the Pacific Islander variety.

Then I checked the list of top receivers, and it turns out the Rams got two outliers. Both stars, neither is black. Both were late round picks! I wonder if we have an inverse of the old downgrading black QBs from yesteryear, with the assumption being that non-black WRs aren't fast enough.

They reported the malefactor is a 17-year-old from Tracy, California.

Tracy, is mostly Hispanic and white, with some Asians, but not so many blacks. But he could be anything.

We’ll see. As I predicted, though, the perp is “bridge and tunnel.”

I’ve noticed this for quite a while... and it’s definitely a weekend rather than weekend phenomenon... young criminals venturing into the city from across the bay. They’re generally looking for trouble in a large triangular zone roughly bordered by Market Street, the Embarcadero/Jefferson St and Powell Street encompassing Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach.

Meant to say: “a weekend rather than a weekDAY phenomenon...”

No, Tracy isn’t even in the Bay Area. It’s in San Joaquin county.

Yep. Tracy is a good 60 miles from San Francisco.

“No, Tracy isn’t even in the Bay Area. It’s in San Joaquin county.”

Oh, for cryin’ out loud. Have you ever driven through the Pacheco Pass in the morning? Tracy is a bedroom community of the Bay Area. There are tens of thousands of people commuting daily into San Francisco and Silicon Valley from places like Tracy, Manteca, etc. I choose to lump denizens of Tracy who find their way into San Francisco on any given day into “bridge and tunnel crowd.” Sue me.
