Shipping. They pack them with all of the air sucked out of them so they’re as flattened as they can be. That’s how you see all of the squared edges of the foam. Then they’re flat enough that they can roll them up and stuff them into a plastic wrap, making them much smaller to ship. Once put through the dryer routine, they’re puffy and you can barely tell by the look or feel that they were once full of chopped up foam. To ship them this way would require much larger boxes. Honestly, it’s quite impressive.
I wouldn’t even bother to try and use one the way they arrive. But after they puff up in the dryer, it’s like night and day. It’s only been one night (and half a morning) but I find them quite comfortable so far.
That’s a pretty ingenious way to ship them then. Shipping costs are so high.
Forgot to ask, what kind did you order? And do they have various options like stiff or soft, dense, I like my pillows kind of dense.
