Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov told CNN the Biden administration is still considering his request to lift restrictions on Ukraine using long-range weapons to strike deeper inside Russian territory and confirmed he’d presented a list of targets in meetings with senior officials in Washington on Friday
“We have explained what kind of capabilities we need to protect the citizens against the Russian terror that Russians are causing us, so I hope we were heard,” Umerov said in an interview with CNN’s Alex Marquardt on “The Situation Room.”
Despite repeated requests from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the US is not currently expected to loosen restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).
“You’ve heard us say that the Ukrainians can use US security assistance to defend themselves from cross-border attacks, in other words counterfire. But as it relates to long-range strike, deep strikes into Russia, our policy has not changed,” said Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder on Tuesday.

The US military will not allow an escalation that causes a direct military confrontation with Russia, no matter what Victoria Nuland and Tony Blinken say.

I think this is more about making money in the short term through Ukraine for business interests and harming Russia and especially China in the long term as economic competitors.
And that may mean trying to avoid direct military confrontation.
I doubt even “Biden” is going to cross that line because everyone knows it will be American weapons, using American targeting data and manned by American operators. Even that is a bridge too far for the current administration.
Ukraine should be presenting peace plan with Russia.
If USA attacks Russia then it will be the last world war, no?

For those that do not understand the lexicon - Ukraine is simply UNABLE to effectively use long-range missiles without the US providing the following:
1. Real-time information as to the value of a target. In other words, Ukraine won’t get much value out of landing a bunch of missiles at a Russian air base...if all the jets had already departed and moved elsewhere.
2. Real-time information on the locations of Russian air defense assets and the optimal routing of missiles to avoid those defenses.
3. Most likely the actual programming of the Western missiles will be done by Westerners, as training the Ukrainians on using them opens up all kinds of additional possibilities, none of them good, regarding an expanded conflict.
So the word “permission” in this context means effectively Western nations striking Russian targets, in Russia and Western militaries will likely not like what that leads to.
What "direct military confrontation with Russia"? Ukraine is not asking for US military personnel and its not a decision by the US military but by the weak Biden admin.
They are asking for permission to use ATACM and Storm Shadow missiles against Russian military airfields, that already have been used against Russian bases in Crimea.
This same weak Biden admin was even against Ukraine attacking Russian oil refineries.
Biden was vacationing at the beach today.
Then he shuffled off to his home to sit on his couch with a bowl of Ensure pudding and a warm blanket.
Whoever is president probably doesn’t want to become a plasma as hot as the sun just over some breakaway oblasts on the other side of the globe.
