The Philippines and China have again clashed in the South China Sea, with Manila and Beijing trading accusations of responsibility for the latest maritime skirmish between the two neighbors amid their fight over sovereignty of the disputed waters.
The incident occurred Sunday within the Spratly Islands, a disputed archipelago that is claimed by the Philippines and China, along with several other Asian nations.
The Phillipines accused China of ramming and causing the engine failure of a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel that was on a "humanitarian mission" to resupply Filipino fisherman.
It said eight ships of China's navy and Coast Guard attempted to "encircle and block" the humanitarian mission and conducted "aggressive and dangerous maneuvers."
The Chinese vessels blasted horns and deployed water cannons, it said, adding that the clash resulted in the "early termination of the humanitarian operation."
“These unprofessional, aggressive and illegal actions posed serious risks to the safety of the Filipino crew and the fishermen they were meant to serve," Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Rear Adm. Jay Tarriela said in a statement.
The Phillipines Coast Guard posted short clips of the incident to its X account, showing Chinese Coast Guard vessels ramming the Manila ship and hitting it with water cannons.

Let’s be up front here. The P.I. has the little one in this dispute. Their mistake was standing up to their big brother for treating them like a little brother. It’s too late to give us those bases back and an airbnb agreement means nothing. Ferdinand Marcos flew to Peking immediately after Viet Nam fell and the Dutarte brought up the little brother slur against us. They’ll fight like they did against the Japanese but it’s hard to do when the issue is in the water.
Robert D. Kaplan wrote a book ‘American Grunts’ about enlisted military(NCO’s) training the locals to fight rather than the diplomats. He had a low opinion of the NCO’s in the Philippines. They don’t trust the officers-corruption.
Maybe out deep state shouda put all our manufacturing factory cards in the Phillipines rather than China. Less profits but the people love the US and speak English.
The islands are essentially out in the middle of nowhere in the SW Pacific, but of course the maritime laws are such that you want to "own" the island in order to control the sea around it.
Richard Spratly, the first melanin-challenged man to see the main island that bears his name, was a sea captain of the mid 1800s, who, when he wasn't collecting whale oil, was ferrying emigrants to Australia, mostly female.
Leave Biden out of this. It’s on the PI.
The ethnic Chinese run the country. Everyone is mixed. A hundred million people spread over a thousand islands. Many are moozlem. They got their own problems.
Who ever is running the military has no carriers in the Pacific. They’re in the middle east and docked for maintenance.

Of course - I'm sure Chinese diplomatic and military policies and priorities have not been influenced in any way, shape, or form by the Biden family's financial connections to China, Biden's escalating war in Ukraine, or the president's obvious dementia. Let's leave Biden out of this.

Fine. The PI should ram or shoot one of those ship/trawlers. Then see how the Chicoms respond. They don’t know how we’ll respond and neither do we.
Do you think Russia dares to have an incident with Israel?
