ATLANTA — A multi-agency operation led to the arrest of five men police say stole commercial roofing material from across job sites around Georgia.
‘Operation Rooftop’ was executed on Wednesday, with officers from 11 Georgia departments serving search warrants at four units of an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Atlanta and in the 3000 block of McElroy Road in Atlanta.
Five men, 27-year-old Jose Amaya Martinez, 30-year-old Juan Adrian Torres Tello, 30-year-old Gabriel Amaya Zalasar, 20-year-old Margarito Amaya Salazar, and 24-year-old Miguel Amaya Zalasar were arrested as the primary suspects in the theft ring.

They had little to no cooperation from the Federal government in detaining the criminals. ICE deported one, who has probably returned by now, rather than hold them for trial.
Be careful when you go to the bank or shop for high-end items. These thieves will scope people out and follow them home so they can rob their homes. Judd said they will dress in lawn maintenance gear or jogging clothes to blend into neighborhoods, in order to case homes, so stay aware of strangers in your neighborhood.
All are an example of immigration and laws not being enforced.
Deport their families and leave them in jail here.
You know why the cartoon character Speedy Gonzales is gone right? Because his main thing was being a thief. He stole cheese. So they axed him. Funny how the truth comes out in little ways like this.
I’m no structural engineer but I’m pretty sure roofing materials are supposed to be nailed down
“You know why the cartoon character Speedy Gonzales is gone right? Because his main thing was being a thief.”
I think Speedy was the hero. Ted Turner bought out the rights because he said it was racist in that it portrayed Mexicans as lazy.
Man....if they were stealing shingles, that’s a tough job......heavy to grab, large to store and has to be enough for a single house. The ‘membrane’ thing sounds more likely. Costly and probably not too bulky.
We welcome our new neighbors from the South!
You’re right of course, but I remember native born Americans doing the same thing back when I worked new residential construction in the Midwest in the late ‘70’s. Except the natives took everything and came back for fixtures and appliances. Equal opportunity thieves.
THey are an enterprising people, that is well known.
A stack of plywood-front yard. My contractor ran a 3” screw onto the top of the stack. How are the thieves gonna find the screw at night?
The criminals running this government have flooded our country with millions of these rotten weasels.
Noted.
These were commercial job sites where as material would be delivered by 18’s and staged on site until needed for use.
AM I WRONG? NONE OF THESE NAMES SEEM TO BE NORWEGIAN/SWEDISH/ OR IRISH.
All sound like INVADERS FROM SOUTH OF THE BORDER.
AFTER INSTALLATION-—NOT before.
A large truck with your EV forklift inside it (it’s quiet) and you can steal a lot of pallets of materials.
Either Ice and water shield/rolls of rubber membrane EPDM/sonifil/trocal or roll roffing like 90 lb mineral surface ..But the good money is roll rubber which is usually put up o roof top at delivery....rubber is either glued down or ballast is used when loose laid.
