BERLIN (AP) – Security at a NATO air base in western Germany has been raised because of intelligence information pointing to a “potential threat,” and all staff not essential to missions have been sent home as a precaution, NATO said.
The Geilenkirchen air base, near the border with the Netherlands, is where the alliance’s Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS, aircraft are based.
A post on the NATO AWACS fleet’s account on social media network X late Thursday night announcing that “we raised the security level” did not elaborate on the nature of the potential threat. It said that “operations continue as planned.”
The Geilenkirchen base said Friday that it had nothing to add to the statement and “the situation at the moment is unchanged.”
German news agency dpa said a reporter saw police cars on the grounds of the air base. Police confirmed a deployment Thursday night but gave no details, and offered no information on Friday morning.

Warmongers pushing war for who knows what reason. It is all a game to them because it isn’t going to be them or their family on the front lines. Evil monsters.
You’re silly. Every boogeyman in Germany is “neo Nazi” or “far right.”
When the Muslims attack and rape the news is obligated to say “far right German resident.” It was laughable reading the news there.

“Warmongers pushing war for who knows what reason.”
Well it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure it out. When the economy is this bad, the only thing that has ever gotten an incumbent re-elected is war.

Everyone’s a Captain Kirk!
I served in the NATO community in NE Germany, Belguim, and The Netherlands providing network, telecom and communications support. GK was a coolplace where the AWACS planes could easily seen from the roadways outside the base.
It is going to hard to prevent someone from damaging aircraft or hangers without expanding the prerimeter outside the base grounds.
Hell, you can literally drive on the public highway right up to a nuclear storage facility, get out of your car and stumble into the security guards. No fences, gates, just nondescript location.
If NATO is ramping up security, it may be due to the Russian discussed response options. One calls for destruction of NATO Airbases which limits in turn NATO F15s bombing Russia. Russia may calculate that simply acting against Romanian F16 AF Base where Ukrainian F16s are stationed requires also limiting the AWACS intel. Russia may also hit the depots and Polish-Ukrainian transfer sites that could destroy a 1000 NATO vehicles being feed into Ukraine. Poland and Lithuania also provide landing bases and maintenance for Ukrsinian F16s returning from Ukrainian airspace.
