One video caught a thief almost flipping over a car as he tried desperately to rip down a utility wire.
Another shows a man in a reflective vest, posing as a legitimate worker.
And one picture caught a thief high in the air – on top of the wires working feverishly to steal them.

They’ll get a couple of bucks for the copper. It will cost the utility company thousands to fix the damage. Is their crime worthy of the death penalty? No. But if they touch the wrong wire they’ll get it anyway.
Such brave people.
At $4.20 a pound, you have to steal an awful lot of copper to make anything useful. Heck, given the time required, a job at McDonalds would pay more.
Back in the day folk where I live used to shoot nuisance crows that would land on utility wires.
I could make a case that what I saw up on those wires was a greater nuisance than any crow.
And then it has to be clean... ie... no insulation. Better off getting a real job, friggin bums.
“And then it has to be clean... ie... no insulation. Better off getting a real job, friggin bums.”
They just burn it off in bulk unless of course they’re respectful of the environment by not burning materials such as wire insulation, tires, etc...
Nobody can play the early 90s country and western song about stealing electric wire anymore. The signature line from it was “dit dah dit dah dit.” (Sound made by thief’s arm twitching from the high voltage.)
“Back in the day folk where I live used to shoot nuisance crows that would land on utility wires.”
That’s some good shooting! Crows usually take off and skedaddle before you can get close enough for a shot.

I was never a lineman for the county*, but I don’t think most utility wires are insulated to begin with. And that’s because insulation adds weight and cost.
If I’m wrong here, I hope someone corrects me.

Yeah, no kidding - we had the copper stolen out of our a/c units at school - all of them. Cost the district a mint to replace them with copper-free units.
Later, same school, the copper was stolen out of our plumbing, disabling the bathrooms and forcing a water shut-off.

A guy I know made a pretty good living replacing the stolen copper pipes from a public housing project. The residents would steal the pipes. Management would call him. He’d replace the pipes.
My friend finally stopped going there. It was getting too dangerous.
wow, brazen. I’m not sure of all the details, but you have to have a copper dealers license to sell copper in Texas. Why not just cut all those 500,000 EV chargers Biden installed himself
Third world stuff.
“You’ll never take me alive, Copper!”
was going to post the exact same msg.
amazing how it’s rare to find intelligent people online yet no shortage among freepers.

It’s already happening. Evidently thieves have no respect for our leader’s (allegedly) great work.
I know it is, I seen a video of all the chargers with the cables cut. I LMAO. Stealing copper off poles is pretty ballzy.
They are stealing the copper telephone cable, which consists of dozens to hundreds of individual 19 to 26 gauge copper twisted pair wires in an overall jacket.
