You can... its called your annual town meeting, reduce the school budget etc.. your property taxes are self imposed every year.. Croydon NH a few years ago voted in a zero dollar school budget.

FR has a number of so-called conservatives who will insist that voting in local elections is ineffective and pointless. Thus, you see situations where Trump gets 70% of the vote in a county, yet the schoolboard, the village council and the county board is dominated by left wing nuts.
It’s cognitive dissonance writ large.
