The number of people looking for a job in the Federal Reserve’s latest labor market survey rose to its highest level since 2014, the U.S. central bank reported Monday, as fears simmer about a broader slowdown in the economy.

The proportion of respondents seeking employment over the past four weeks jumped to 28.4 percent from 19.4 percent in July of last year, according to the Fed’s Survey of Consumer Expectations (SCE) labor market survey.

The increase in job seekers was most noticeable among people who are older than 45, who don’t have a college degree, and whose income is below $60,000, Fed researchers noted.

The survey also showed decreased satisfaction with pay and benefits among employees. Approval ratings on wage levels dropped by 3.2 percent, while they fell by 8.6 percent on non- wage benefits and by 9.3 percent on the opportunities for promotion.

Under Trump people had to make do with one job. Under Biden, many people have two jobs!

And those who thought they could get by without one found out under Bidenomics they can’t.

With the number of help wanted and now hiring signs I’m seeing, I don’t think they are looking very hard.

Not seeing any help wanted signs here. Last one I saw I went in and asked for an application and was told they actually didn’t need anyone but corporate wanted the signs posted at all locations. They gave me an application, but as they said, no openings there.

I guess it depends where you live. My car insurance renewed in July and premium was unchanged. My homeowners insurance renewed in July and went up under 10%. My homeowners and separate fire insurance policy on vacation home renewed in July and went up 15% and about 20% respectively, but that house is in a very high risk fire area. My gas and electric are on auto debit and I don’t pay too much attention to the amounts but think I would notice if they went up a lot. I haven’t used my A/C yet this year though. I have private insurance through my previous employer and pay less than $100 per month for platinum level PPO, vision and enhanced dental coverage.
