Report: California’s Plastic Bag Ban Produced More Plastic Bag Waste
Breitbart ^ | 08/18/2024 | Joel B Pollack

Posted on 08/18/2024 10:57:12 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

California’s 2014 ban on thin plastic grocery bags caused more plastic bag waste, not less, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Breitbart News covered the fight over the plastic bag ban — the first by any state in the nation — in 2014, noting that the ban was a regressive tax on consumers that would benefit large grocery chains, who could charge ten cents per bag for heavier, government-approved plastic bags that were, in theory, more reusable than the thinner ones.

The solution is simple. California should just ban grocery bags, period. Most of California’s “shoppers” don’t use them anyway.

Environmentalists are the very best at destroying the Environment AND Civilization at the same time.

There is more litter in California than I’ve ever seen in any other state.

I worked/lived in the Bay Area for all of 2016 and the early part of 2017. Even in nice areas, I had to wade through litter in restaurant and grocery store parking lots.

You couldn’t get a plastic bag at the grocery store (and you had to pay for paper bags), but somehow, plastic bags were strewn about everywhere, in the streets, parking lots and highways.

I remember entering Highway 880 one morning to drive from Hayward to San Leandro for work and seeing a large (plastic) bag of trash being tossed from the window of the SUV in front of me. Trash went scattering everywhere on what should have been a scenic area.

The pathological craving for virtue signaling is a 21st century phenomenon. I don’t think humans in past eras committed such folly while consistently negating the impact of their supposed virtues.

Libs are world champions at making symbolic virtue signaling gestures into law, completely oblivious of unintended consequences that most people can easily see. Expect them to pass another BS law to fix this problem of their creation.

And repeat.

To crave and chase after human respect is to neglect what is due to God.

Human respect has become their “deity”.

In earlier times very few people had such excess energy and resources, as well as no internet, to be full-time attention whores.
