There was an incident at Eglin when the Army were down for joint exercise and they were performing the gate duties. One of their soldiers drew their weapon and it went off. Needless to say they were not allowed to carry a loaded weapon for the duration.

I also remember when a truck loaded with illegals blew past the guards at Walker AFB in Roswell back in 1966 or 1967. They were caught on the Alert pads where the B-52 with nukes were waiting for the call to “GO!”

“The security personnel stated they heard several shots fired as well as the fired rounds go past them,” according to SAPD spokesperson Washington Moscoso. “After this incident, the security personnel added more armed guards as a precaution. Later that same morning, just before 5:00 am, a sedan stopped on Median Base Rd. East of the same entrance gate to the Lackland AFB/Chapman Training Annex.

Much to learn, I hope the LEOs recovered/have some evidence and clues.
Rainbow dorm guard. Enjoyed waking up the new guys on their first night there. I calmly looked at my watch on one hand and I had the other hand on the light switch to the dorm. At 6am sharp I flashed the lights on and yelled at the top of my voice GET UP! Never saw so many scared men in my life and I must say I enjoyed it. Looking back it was kinda mean.
I’m sure it made them better airmen.
