Southern Californians hit with skyrocketing electricity bills
KTLA ^ | 8/16/24 | Peter Wilgoren

Posted on 08/16/2024 5:27:20 PM PDT by eyeamok

Linda Lynch, a KTLA viewer in the Antelope Valley, was shocked to see that her electric bill skyrocketed to $900 this month, hundreds MORE than usual. Linda writes that she can barely afford food, never mind electricity.

We should point out that the Antelope Valley in Southern California saw excessive heat warnings issued for stretches of days this month. The warnings are issued when heat is forecast to be extreme and often come with an advisory to keep cool and only go out if necessary.

And Linda wasn’t the ONLY one who emailed.

Carla Chang writes, “Hello! Please look into whyyyyyy Edison is charging so much for electricity. People are receiving $600-$1000 bills.”

I brought this up recently on how SCE customers are getting reamed for electricity. TOU or Time of Use billing is the reason, do not believe any of the crap they are saying. My 2 houses are on Standard Billing, when I got power at my new house they forced me into TOU billing, after the waiting period I switched back to Standard Billing. My bill runs $300-$350 each house in the Summer, TOU my bill would be $1000 EACH. For the 3 months on TOU nobody was living here, porch lights , fridge and nothing else and my bill was $200, it went to $60 when I switched.

EVERYONE can OPT OUT of TOU billing, but you have to try.

Time of use. You get charged more during peak usage hours. They are trying to get people to do their chores in the middle ofthe night.

It is the same in Australia. These tariffs on afternoon use, as well as massive increases in costs. A very big part of the cost of living crisis.

Sure because sleeping at night when you work all day is so overrated.

Please cut back on your electricity usage, during the hot periods in CA it’s best to turn off your air conditioning. Think of all the millions newcomers that need electricity and A/C. Don’t be selfish and conserve!

Please, during peak times and the hottest periods of the day, shut down your air conditioning and switch your fans to low.

If we all cut back, we can continue to import millions more energy consuming people! Don’t be selfish, think of their needs!

SDG&E tried to automatically push all direct billed customers in my vicinity into the Clean Energy Alliance, which would have changed to billing through CEA and likely forced me into a TOU plan.

Fortunately, I caught their notice and opted out.

Just wait until everyone has to charge their electric cars. Think it’s bad now?

The sad thing is that Democrat voters don’t have the mental ability to see that their voting habits are the direct cause of their miseries.

I don’t even know if I’m on TOU. I’ll have to look. I haven’t even turned on my A/C yet. I have two houses also and the bill for my primary home is 35-60 a month and my vacation home, when I’m not there, is very low. That house doesn’t have A/C. When I worked I did laundry and stuff at night but now I do it whenever I feel like it. I have SCE.

The “deregulated” aspect of Texas energy market works just fine. The ERCOT dictated generation caps, subsidized wind energy, and infrastructure monopoly costs continue to skyrocket.

Gee. Maybe California should consider generating more electricity so they could meet demand when it’s needed. But that’s just me.

Just wait until everyone has to charge their electric cars. Think it’s bad now?

That's the idea. The want to crash the grid and standard of living, just like they've been doing for years now. Once they get 40 million EV's on the road, they'll start rationing electrical power or just keep doubling the cost.
