Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that the top civilian honor was better than the top military honor because those recipients are in 'very bad shape' or deceased.
He made the comments at an antisemitism event at his Bedminster, New Jersey resort, where he lauded Miriam Adelson, the widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who long bankrolled Republican political campaigns.
Trump reminded the audience how he had presented Miriam Adelson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018, mispeaking and saying it's equivalent to the 'Congressional Medal of Honor.'
The highest military decoration is simply referred to as the Medal of Honor.
'It's actually much better,' Trump commented. 'Because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, they're soldiers. They're either in very bad shape because they've been hit so many times by bullets or they're dead.'
'She gets it,' Trump continued. 'And she's a healthy, beautiful woman.'

'And they're rated equal,' he said of the two honors.

I’d have to see it in full context
The Daily Gag Mail is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill ... as will a few here, unfortunately.
Why does he say s**t like this?
What’s to be gained?
If true, then Phil Donahue (who Biden just gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to) is more highly ranked than any American battlefield hero in history. LMAO.
If his point is that it is better for the recipient, I get his point. Most MOH awards are given to those gravely injured or dead.
The Medal of Honor is often incorrectly called the Congressional Medal of Honor. Kind of like ‘Smokey Bear’ is incorrectly called ‘Smokey the Bear’.
This is nothing. The Democrat rapid response team (MSM) saw that Walz was getting hammered by Vets and are trying to create a story. People like you who are looking for something negative to say about Trump jump in it and no one else cares. What did he say about the Jew Hating Kamala? You couldn’t tell me because the contents of the speech to you and the rapid response team don’t care.
“I’d have to see it in full context”
The context is he was complimenting Miriam Adelson. With Trump everything is either the greatest or the worst. It’s just typical Trump hyperbole.
I can’t believe people are mad that Miriam Adelson is still alive.
That’s clearly what he said. I listened live. Everyone knows this.
This is typical Trump. He’s trying to make a reasonable point. But it comes out just wrong enough for the media to jump on what he said.
Meanwhile, Biden and Harris get a complete pass for their nonstop and dangerous nonsense.
Yep
Knowing what he meant is obvious to those who understand Trump. Hearing what you think he meant and twisting it to meet your needs is subjective at best.
As I listened, I was thinking how his point, reasonably made but made overlong in an awkward manner, was going to be an easy misinterpretation. It was a joke to say that those who got it from the military had been shot fun of bullets or were already dead, so it was obviously better for the recipent to have a similar award given while you were still hale and hearty. I’ll bet it felt awkward in that room, too. He repeated himself, I’d guess, because he felt the words just didn’t sound right in that moment. But the next time was repetition rather than a better phrasing and he didn’t seem to be willing to let go of a joke opportunity.
It is exactly his point. The Medal of Honor (MoH) is given to those that are either dead or gravely wounded. And it is much more emotionally easier for a President to present the other than the MoH, because there is no emotional baggage. When I was in boot camp. A drill instructor (a Viet Nam vet) asked us who wanted to receive the MoH. Most of us raised our hands. He proceeded to chew us out. He told us with great emotion that no one should want that medal because it meant you were in a very screwed up situation, where only great bravery could save the day. And the end result would be that you were killed or being very seriously wounded, usually the former but hopefully the latter.
All politicians should be on prompter at this point. One slip up by republicans, and that is all the media will report. On and on......
Yep. I think it comes from his business instinct to hype whatever he is selling, but it’s also just a quirk of how he speaks. He’s had the same speech habits for decades. He always means well in the point he’s trying to make, but it does open him up to political opponents misconstruing what he’s saying.
Anyone who takes the time to understand him gets the fact that what he’s saying is harmless, but it always worries me how this stuff goes over with the “low-info” types who base their votes on emotion.
😉👍
