Kamala Harris to Announce Soviet-Style Price Controls on Food Under Guise of ‘Gouging Ban’
Breitbart ^ | 08/15/2024 | Simon Kent

Posted on 08/15/2024 5:53:21 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Soviet-style centrally administered price controls on food and grocery prices will form part of the federal economic proposals U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will unveil Friday when she finally delivers an insight into her 2024 policies.

Her address will mark the first time Harris offers a policy focused speech since she was anointed as the Democratic candidate in July and been roundly accused by critics since as being a policy-free zone, as Breitbart News reported.

The Democratic nominee is promising to institute a first-ever national ban on price gouging and price-fixing within her first 100 days in office in an effort to deflect many voters’ low marks for President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy.

I rember the old price & wage controls under Jimmie Carter & how well that DIDN”T work. I must say the wage control part of it seemed to work, though. What a joke that program & Carter were both.

The public is so uneducated regarding financial matters that this will appeal to the masses. Until there is nothing to buy.

The last President to try this was the Democrats’ favorite whipping boy, Richard Nixon.

Forcing lower prices will force many businesses to close, thereby forcing many employees to lose their jobs, and forcing empty shelves in sores everywhere.

But, not to worry.

The government will provide food and goods for all, from the empty shelves.

If I were planning to institute a Soviet-style of program once elected, I CERTAINLY would not campaign on that plan.

I’m in Florida. It used to be that when a storm wiped out power everybody with a truck would buy generators, water and ice at retail and drive it south where they sold it for whatever the market would bear. The demand was quickly satisfied so the price came down and down until the last guys were dumping their stuff at a loss. Then we got a price gouging law. Now doing what we did before was illegal. How did that work? The crisis, instead of being over in days takes weeks and months to resolve itself. That’s because for “fairness” the government removed the market driver. This is government being stupid in the name of fairness. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Exactly. When prices go up, you blame the retailer, revealing absolutely no understanding of basic economics. Kill and eat the goose that lays the golden eggs.

She takes a page right out of Noxious Nixon’s 1970s play book. It did not work then and will not work now.

This is way worse than just empty stores.

In the early days of Soviet communism, these sort of policies crashed the economy. Rather than fix the economy , the Bolsheviks manufactured scapegoats like the kulak class to falsely blame for the misery and started the Reign of Terror and the gulags

“empty shelves coming to a supermarket near you...”

There is a cure: rationing.

There are enough federal guns and badges to enforce rationing; especially if the military is turned loose.
