LAS VEGAS — For weeks, Republicans have pummeled Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration, blaming her for President Joe Biden’s policies at the border.
Now, Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is seeking to neutralize that line of attack, one of her biggest weaknesses with voters, running a playbook that Democrats say has worked for them in recent elections and staking out her clearest position yet as a tough-on-crime prosecutor focused on securing the border.
This week, she has hit back by promising to heighten border security if elected and slamming her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, for helping kill a bipartisan border deal in Congress. And her campaign has walked back some of the more progressive positions she took during her bid for the Democratic nomination in 2019, including her stance that migrants crossing the U.S. border without authorization should not face criminal penalties.
The Harris campaign released a television advertisement highlighting her pivot. The ad, targeted to voters in the battleground states, promised that Harris would “hire thousands more border agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking.” It made no mention of immigrants already in the United States illegally.
No other Democratic nominee has taken a position this tough on border security since Bill Clinton. Her stance reflects a change in public opinion since Trump left the White House in 2021. More Americans, including many Democrats and Latino voters, have expressed support for hard-line immigration measures.

Articles like this tell me that the NYT and the Left know Kamala has a problem. She owns Biden’s policies and she can’t run from them.
Sorry, but that is entirely in your wheelhouse, pretty much was your sole responsibility since you became vice president, and probably the only measure people have for what you'd do as president.
Which, of course, is not secure the border.

Trump was not in congress. He could not possibly kill any bill there.
All of the Dems (including Commie-LA) opposed his plan to build a wall when he was president. So there’s that.
The only new bill that should come about should address getting these illegals the hell out of here.
Its obvious Kamala is just saying whatever she thinks she needs to say to get elected. If running like Ronald Reagan will get her into office, she’ll do it. Heck, she came out with a bundle of tax cut proposals yesterday. Of course, everybody with a lick of common sense knows that all these “conservative” proposals will vanish on day one if she wins.
This is one of the reasons that Joe Biden, a man deemed too mentally disabled to run for POTUS again is still disgracefully in charge of America.
He is only there because if they were going to replace the old fart with Kamala the big problem would be selling her as having nothing to do policy and current record wise with what she has done while Joey’s VP.
This is the reason her campaign and their lackey media stay away from policy and fear debate.
If she would have had to replace Joe per the 25th, she would have had a hard time playing the game she is now.

How naive can people be to think that the woman who helped throw open the border to an unprecedented level will suddenly secure the border. Peak absurdity.
And of course this is just another of her “stealing Trump’s campaign” tactics. Trump better use this as part of a larger, laser-focused strategy to brand her as a complete phony who can’t be believed about anything.

The “border bill” was pure pork. It’s only purpose was to organize and facilitate the arrival and relocation of migrants around the country.

Yes, indeed, for those of us old enough to remember Bill Clinton’s campaign against Geo. Bush, he ran promising a tax cut.... shortly after he became President he make a speech saying that he had worked as hard as I could, but it wan’t possible to get that tax cut he promised... typical “chicken in every pot” democrat. And to think he lost to Bush over “read my lips ...” pledge which he didn’t honor after being manhandled by the Dems. Of course Ross Perot certainly didn’t help !
Kamala as VP votes in the laws/policies that cause the problem, now she thinks she can just “game change” to make it seem she actually cares about problems she created for the country and Citizens and people should believe her.
she’s got so much blood and harmed lives in her wake and yet she wants to just speed ahead.
Not even an inkling of remorse or admittance for what she actions or inactions caused.

Biden and Schumer the tumor tricked gullible Republicans into signing on to a terrible immigration bill. All it takes is one Republican so that it can be called bipartisan. How could they be so stupid?
