Ukrainian's Zaporizhzhia nuclear reactor is on fire.

A cooling tower on fire? How do they do that?
Just when you didn’t think the area could get even more unstable ...
I wonder where the “fallout” would go if it melts down? On the Ukes, NATO?
I thought that was the Yke reactor occupied by Russia.
Don’t the Russians control Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant?

Prevailing winds this time of year are from the north and the east.

Too early to know much. Both sides are blaming the other. The Russians are blaming it on Ukrainian shelling. The Ukrainians are saying that Russian soldiers set a lot of tires on fire.
I hope that it’s the latter. If it was the Russians, then the fire might not be an out of control situation. Time will tell.
I tried to look this up and all I can find is a fire in 2023. My understanding is that the plant was shut down, meaning a meltdown is extremely unlikely. It’s hot, but only about 200 degrees. The cooling water would need to be drained off for anything to happen.
Ukraine is a small country that was attacked by a bigger country. That’s wrong says the deep state choice for dear communist leader, with an utter lack of sense of irony.
Reading the article(!), it is claimed that Russia is running the place and tires are on fire in the cooling tower, no radiation above normal. Some reports that fire is now out. Fire was not in the reactor area. Nothingburger, if the reports are correct.
The Ukrainians have been trying to disable it for a year or two.
Don’t the Russians occupy that territory?
The Ukrainians are claiming that the Russians filled the tower with old tires and lit it on fire
The Russians are claiming they are recovering Ukrainian missile fragments from the site
Given the fact that the Ukrainians are possibly trying a raid on a Russian nuclear plant the timing seems suspicious
Worldwide.
We were in Scotland when Chernobyl happened. The nuclear radiation detectors at the sub base were going nuts.
Here’s a map of Chernobyl pollution. It’s geographically close enough that I’d expect something similar. A Uke attack causing a release of radiation would be a hammering act of war on Belarus. Other than that, it would be a magnificent FU! from Z to NATO.
A cooling tower on fire is WAY different than a reactor on fire. This is probably absolutely nothing to be concerned about. A cooling tower is basically just a radiator and heat exchange shell for hot water. The actual reactor is far away undergrond and when operated properly will shut down under any number of adverse conditions way before anything bad can happen.
