It’s the feds job to see that people are here legally, not 8 zillion employers. If you asked retailers to verify citizenship to make purchases, that would be effective, too, but again imposes a burden unnecessarily.
I remember back in the 90's when I owned 3 small companies, I was required to fill out a Fedgov form (can't remember the number) regarding the hiring of any employee, no matter their race or ethnicity. That alone caused a large self-deportation in many Towns, Counties, and States. It was a successful policy.
As for public assistance, that has always driven me crazy. What right do illegals have to receive benefits from my tax dollars for their basic welfare? I've always been of mind, get a job or go home! Actually, just go home and leave the jobs to American legals.

Nope, you start prosecuting/enprisoning the GOVT employees that aide/abet/collude/conspire+.
That's a good idea, but it's not enough. Biden/Harris have been giving out work permits to all the millions of Central Americans who show up at the border. When they show up at the border, they are given "asylum seeker" status, a notice to appear before an immigration judge in a decade or so, loads of freebie stuff, and after 150 days they can get "temporary" work permits. A lot of the freebies are state run programs (usually with federal dollars) so it will be difficult for a new president to shut those down without congressional action. We need Trump to appoint thousands of immigration judges and establish clear rules that require substantive and substantial evidence of actual asylum needs, not just vague claims, and clear backlog of cases that have purposely been created to keep them in the country until they are so embedded they are even more difficult to remove.
