State Fair of Texas no longer allowing guns on fairgrounds

Last year, State Fair of Texas officials were forced to review its weapons policy because of a shooting in the food court that injured three people.

Police say 22-year-old Cameron Turner opened fire. They say he did not have a license to carry, which would have allowed him to have a gun.

Because the State Fair of Texas is a private, not-for-profit organization, it can prohibit firearms within the fairgrounds.

That includes gun owners with a license to carry or who practice constitutional carry, concealed carry and open carry.

Other weapons, such as illegal knives, clubs, explosives, ammunition, and even replica or hoax weapons, are prohibited as well.

In the past, the fair prohibited weapons on the property but made exceptions for licensed gun owners. That won't be the case in 2024.

The only exception will be for peace officers with credentials.

Okay, so how is this going to work?

Are there going to be metal detectors? Wanding, frisks?

What if you are found with a gun inside the fairgrounds? Will they simply tell you to leave, or trespass you?

What is the law in Texas on ignoring No Gun Signs on private property and small businesses? I am NOT talking Federal property. Is is an arrestable crime or do you just have to leave?

When I lived in Arizona, I gave up going to the Arizona State Fair for the same reason. It’s like being in Tijuana on a rowdy Friday night. Screw that crap. That group is a bunch of drunken smart asses.

Given the neighborhood it’s in, you need a weapon walking in.

If they have check in secure boxes like a courthouse, and do an airport search, that’s their choice. A mere sign just disarms regular folks.

The latest trend is the teen-aged girls dress like they are in a Motley Crue video (or less) and they buy the frozen bananas on a stick and walk around working them like a you know what. That is most of the younger girls 14ish to mid 20’s) not just the no habla crowd.

“No Guns” signs are not legally binding in Texas. Sign or not if they ask you to leave you should.

Yeah, but to force that the fair needs to be boycotted. Any gun owner needs to make it clear that they will not attend because of this issue. At the least put a few pickups in the parking lot with huge signs on this.
Why? Because you are saying that law abiding gun owners cannot be trusted.

F@#$% you.

“They say he did not have a license to carry, which would have allowed him to have a gun.” and “On September 1, 2021, House Bill 1927 takes into effect, eliminating the requirement for Texas citizens to obtain a state-issued license to carry handguns.” Sounds like he didn’t need a license in Texas.

I am of the opinion that ANYTIME an organization limits the right of a citizen to self defense, that organization AUTOMATICLY assumes liability. If I am prohibited from carrying at a public event, and I get injured in any manner that could have been prevented by carrying, the event organizer is then liable.

They say he did not have a license to carry, which would have allowed him to have a gun.

The article begins with a falsehood.

Texas is a constitutional carry state. You don't need a license to carry in Texas

I imagine they will be metal detectors at the entrance. That is done at the large fair in our neck of the woods. And it’s big, with more than a million people in attendance every year. It takes almost no time to go through.

Not saying it’s a great idea…but we haven’t had a shooting. We have gangs slapping at each other though. These days that would have likely been shooting at each other.

One would need to bar other things to prevent that stuff.

Not if you take DART light rail to the entrance.

They are idiots. A bad guy with a gun does not give a damn about the law nor rules. A good guy with a gun might shoot the bad guy with a gun.
