Doug Mills joins me for an in depth discussion of the technical details surrounding his historic photo and an incredible life on the road with Presidents of the United States of America.

Trump gesticulates at these rallies and if the photographer wants pics where his subject’s hands and arms aren’t blurred as he moves, his camera would be set for achieving that effect. Whether those particular settings would’ve captured a speeding bullet, I have no idea.
Just for my own edification, as it sounds like there are those far more expert than I on this thread, that photo is of a vapor trail and its length and position is based on the position of the Sun, correct?
Assuming that the bullet is not from the grassy knoll, it is probably traveling over 100 feet in 1/20th of a second, so my deduction is that the photographer caught a portion of a longer-lasting vapor trail, rather than a fluke of timing alligning the shutter and bullet.
Thanks.
Maybe it was Brian Glenn interviewing this photographer?
Brian was recently hired by RAV. He’s covered just about every Trump rally, over the years, for his former employer, RSBN.
I’ll look for that replay. We usually watch Grant’s show, but, missed this one.
That gave me a laugh. Yep, we're in bizarro world, so that's possible.
It looks like the painting of Clinton in a blue dress.
I meant the photographer. Haven’t they banned his photo?
Very informative. Thanks for the post.
The how, why, where, who of the photography is sufficiently muddled now so those details no longer matter. You can tell that by just the posts on this thread.
The “historical” photograph just occurred by happenstance. Move along everyone.
GUILTY on all counts!!!
The photographer in the video claims that he attends most President Trump rallies.
He mentioned that he was planning to travel to the next several President Trump rallies as well.
I think the assassination was premeditated and a conspiracy—but I also believe this photographer is telling the truth.
The big news here is that his cell phone worked just fine during the event while Secret Service (imho lying) claimed their cell phones did not work during the same period.
There is zero evidence that he routinely stet his camera to its best options for capturing exploding heads, either.
What do you suppose caused him to sacrifice image quality for super speed stop motion burst capture instead, this one time?
I do not claim to be an expert on photography.
If you find one ask them.
:-)
Not at all grainy for modern pro-grade and even enthusiast grade cameras.
If cropping there may be a slight bit more noise but you would have to do some serious cropping for image quality to significantly degrade.
You don’t have to be an expert to see that this was more than a little odd.
(As any mere photo hobbyist can tell all the apologists running cover for the ongoing and growing coverup.)
I am not even a photo hobbyist.
Discuss it with them.
I am. Examples from my far inferior equipment on my home page.
Yes, Brian Glenn. I didn’t remember his name but he’s filling in for Grant last night and I guess tonight also.
I was surprised at the 24mm focal length. He had to be close or the picture cropped a bunch.
I think you’re confusing frame rate and shutter speed. It’s possible to set both a high shutter speed (to reduce the exposure in bright conditions or to reduce motion blur) and a low frame rate.
I’m not a photographer. What I am thinking of is reducing the amount of light that goes into the lens to prevent the sunlight from whiting out the picture.
It is my understanding that one way to do that is to take quicker pictures, whether that is frame rate or shutter speed I don’t know.
