The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran has intensified discussions about the infiltration of intelligence agents and spies into the highest layers of the security and military apparatus in Iran. The regime is hiding details about the recent arrests after Haniyeh’s assassination, but it’s clear that Khamenei’s intelligence and security systems have many flaws and weaknesses.
On July 24, 2024, Esmail Khatib, Iran’s Minister of Intelligence, announced that they had dismantled the Mossad network in Iran. He said this was a significant achievement for the Ministry of Intelligence under Raisi’s government. Khatib also mentioned that they had stopped Mossad’s ability to infiltrate, which had been used to assassinate scientists and sabotage important sites.
However, just a week later, people doubted Khatib’s statement and laughed at it. On July 31, 2024, the Hamas leader, who was in Tehran for a new official’s swearing-in ceremony, was assassinated. No country has claimed responsibility for the assassination, but it has highlighted the issue of infiltration into the top levels of Khamenei’s intelligence and security organizations. This is not the first, and likely not the last, assassination due to such infiltration.
