1 of last Republican congressmen to vote for Trump impeachment defends his seat in Washington race

U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, who is seeking a sixth term, will face off against Trump-endorsed candidate Jerrod Sessler along with Tiffany Smiley, a former nurse who has made Trump a focus of her campaign, in the reddest congressional district in Washington state. But for the second election in a row, Newhouse must fight for reelection with Trump’s looming presence hanging over his shoulder in the central Washington district that runs from the Canadian border to the Columbia River.

His primary opponents have been quick to jump onto what they see as a huge liability, but political experts caution it’s difficult to say whether Trump’s endorsement will sway voters who already stuck with Newhouse two years ago.

Newhouse and U.S. Rep. David Valadao, of California, are the only Republican Congressional lawmakers left among the 10 who voted to impeach Trump in 2021. Others retired or were defeated by Trump-endorsed primary challengers.

“The Trump impeachment vote and Newhouse’s views about Trump were probably more important two years ago. And yet he survived that primary. And he won pretty handily in the general election,” said Cornell Clayton, director of Washington State University’s Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service. "I mean he’s got support in that community.”

MULTIPLE MAGA opponents may well split the vote allowing the RINO to prevail. Not good.

He only survived last time because his opponents split the vote. It looks like they’re doing it again. If he wins the Republican nomination, I hope one of them runs as an Independent. If that throws the seat to a Democrat for one term before a MAGA candidate takes it back....so be it.

The RINOs are enemy #1 and must be taken out first.

Re: "Multiple MAGA opponents will split vote"

Exactly.

The official Washington state Republican Party is center-left and openly anti-Trump.

The state GOP convention actually nominated a Black centrist for governor, even though the best known Republican in the state - Dave Reichert, a Conservative - is going to win one slot in the state wide Top Two Primary.

My first instinct - at least one of the MAGA opponents in the Congressional Top Two Primary is lying.

From the article: U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, who is seeking a sixth term, will face off against Trump-endorsed candidate Jerrod Sessler along with Tiffany Smiley

The same thing just happened in AZ with the RINO POS Steven Richer, and he LOST because out of the two conservatives running against him, only one (Heap) was Trump-endorsed, and he won.

Running multiple 'conservatives' against a RINO has long been a successful ploy until Trump came along. Hopefully his endorsement will do the trick for Sessler as it did for Heap in AZ.

“Newhouse rated B+ by GOA. Sessler A.”

What’s GOA?

Newhouse has a CR Liberty score of 50%.

Unfortunately, he is my congressman. He comes from a long line of handpicked successors to the seat. His family are large orchardists in the area and need migrant labor to harvest their fruit, which means we have a substantial Hispanic population.

Trump is backing Jerrod Sesslor but I voted for Tiffany Smiley

The last democrat to hold that District Seat was Jay Inslee. He lasted 1 term and was voted out for voting for Clinton’s Assault Weapons Ban.

“Gunowners of America”

Oh, ok. Thank you.

He may vote right on that particular issue most of the time. He’s otherwise a liberal Republican. John McCain used to do the same thing. He would vote conservative on abortion and tax issues to maintain his high American Conservative Union rating to fool people.

I’ve been keeping track of votes on major issues for the past couple of congresses. Newhouse voted for the new FBI building, signed the pro-Kevin McCarthy letter, voted for gay marriage, voted for the J6 committee and voted to impeach President Trump. He needs to be replaced with somebody else.

it’s difficult to say whether Trump’s endorsement will sway voters who already stuck with Newhouse two years ago.

If you run a top notch MAGA opponent then it wouldn't be difficult.

“Gun Owners of America”.

They are a single issue organization.

And yes, I am a gunowner and a rabid advocate of the SECOND AMENDMENT but I think we need to pay attention to ALL policy decisions coming out of the CRIMINALS in DC!
