Russia to train troops to use nuclear weapons on the battlefield

Russia will train its troops in Ukraine to use tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield, Moscow has said.

The training exercises will involve Iskander-M ballistic missiles and various aircraft, Moscow’s defence ministry said in a statement published on the Telegram messaging app.

“During the exercise, issues of preparing units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation for the combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons will be worked out,” it said.

“As part of this exercise, the personnel of the missile formations of the Southern and Central military districts will work out combat training tasks of obtaining special training ammunition for the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile systems, equipping launch vehicles with them and covertly advancing to designated positions in preparation for conducting electronic launchers.”

“The ongoing stage of the exercise is aimed at gaining the readiness of personnel and equipment of units for the combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons to Russia to carry out combat missions,” the ministry’s statement added.

I’ll play Devil’s advocate here and take the contrary position. What makes you believe the regime running Biden here would Not deploy and use tactical battlefield theater nukes in Ukraine if Russia used them first? I don’t think we can be comfortable making that assertion.
I don’t want either side to use them, but if Russia does use them in Ukraine, all bets are off.

It is not possible for the US and Russia to engage in limited nuclear warfare. It’s been gamed out on both sides for 75 years on dozens of occasions. As soon as Russian troops, or US troops are hit with a nuke(s) from the other side...the big, world ending stuff will fly.
