Former President Donald Trump announced his intention to eliminate taxes on Social Security checks if he regains the White House.
This announcement comes as part of a larger strategy outlined by the Republican National Committee (RNC) in their 2024 GOP Platform released earlier this month, titled “Make America Great Again!”
This comprehensive platform is inspired by the enduring vision of former President Donald Trump.
“The Republican National Committee (RNC) Platform Committee adopted President Donald J. Trump’s 2024 Republican Party Platform with overwhelming support– a pro-American agenda that stands in stark contrast to the record of weakness, failure, and dishonesty created by Joe Biden,” the Trump campaign said.
“President Trump’s platform serves as a contract with the American voter that makes clear what we can and will deliver under a President Trump administration with the Republican Party leading the country for the next four years.”
The platform emphasizes a commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare, promising no cuts or changes to the retirement age—a sentiment that resonates deeply with millions of Americans who rely on these programs for financial stability.
“Fight For And Protect Social Security And Medicare With No Cuts, Including No Changes To The Retirement Age” is one of the twenty core promises highlighted in the platform.
On Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social to amplify his message. “SENIORS SHOULD NOT PAY TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY!” he declared, framing the tax elimination as a necessary step to ensure that seniors can keep more of their hard-earned benefits.
His statement has been met with enthusiasm from many, who view this proposal as a direct response to the financial struggles faced by older Americans.
VERY true.
People that would benefit most are couples on SS right at the 12%/22% threshold. If you have an RMD coming up, putting you into the 22% bracket, (let’s say $40K), that whole amount could be in the 12% range instead of 22% if SS is no longer part of your AGI.
I like this better than student loan forgiveness.
This money is already paid for so why tax it again.
Exactly right. I could have invested that money and have a much larger nest egg.
He doesn’t get it. No use trying to explain it to him. Either he has never seen a SS statement or doesn’t understand withholding.
But ... but ... where will all of the rich Dem donors get their maids, and their gardeners, and their au pairs?!?
“Trump took to Truth Social to amplify his message.”
So ... preaching to the choir. It doesn’t really help unless the “sinners” can hear his policies.
We need to find a way to get the news to those who need to hear it. My sister does “drive-by” Facebook postings, and prays that they’ll be dispersed among many, including Harris-Biden fans.
$4,000 a month....source (of information)? We know where the money comes from.
Trump needs to explain who is going to be taxed to recover the lost revenue, or what programs are going to be cut. Otherwise, it’s just another Republican attempt at vote buying (like the tax on tips), a game that the Democrats are much better at.
“Now remove the RMD requirement.”
Yes. Just today we had to make the decision of what to do about that.
Maybe someone will whisper your idea into Trump’s ear.
There is no ‘lost revenue’.................
“The max rate is 85% is taxable.”
Grrrrr...!
No...it is not fair to pay taxes on SS no matter the income. Govt took that money over years, and we could have had a better return investing it ourselves. I prefer to “tax myself” by giving as much as I can to deserving ppl like my hardworking son...than to the government, AGAIN!
Excellent. No tax on tips. No tax on social security.
Soon, no tax on income.
Repeal the 16th.
Honarably discharged veterens should never pay more than 3% of their gross income annually in federal income tax.
Did you go to the link? The rules are ridiculous. SS is taxable income for most normals....
“Trump needs to explain who is going to be taxed to recover the lost revenue, or what programs are going to be cut”
Lol.
All that does is keep the existing deficit the same as it was.
What is the point of that exactly?
We already know a long laundry list of insane federal programs that should be cut or eliminated.
Getting the gutless Republicans in Congress to do it is the challenge.
Have you been checked for mental illness?
Stop it, Donald, I’m going to love you TOO much!
More tariffs, less income taxes.
