The Biden administration is gearing up to try to forgive the student debt of tens of millions of Americans again, after the Supreme Court struck down its first effort last year.
In the coming days, the U.S. Department of Education will begin emailing borrowers who may be eligible for the wide-scale loan cancellation, the department said on Wednesday. It hopes to deliver that relief in the fall, possibly weeks before the 2024 presidential election.
“Today, the Biden-Harris administration takes another step forward in our drive to deliver student debt relief to borrowers who’ve been failed by a broken system,” U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
Borrowers who are likely to qualify for partial or full debt erasure include those who owe more now than they did at the start of repayment and people who have been paying on their loans for decades.
The same day the Supreme Court blocked President Joe Biden’s first attempt at sweeping student loan forgiveness, he announced that the White House would try to deliver the relief another way.
Originally, the president attempted to cancel the debt through an executive action. For his Plan B, he has directed the Education Department to pursue the regulatory process, which experts say should increase its chances of surviving the inevitable next round of legal challenges.

using government funds for Dem party electioneering.
Blatant electioneering with government resources.
Wow. A few months before the election using taxpayer dollars.
This is such an expensive way to buy votes. In the early days of the Republic, IIRC, a few shots of whiskey was enough.
I paid off my loans decades ago. Can I be reimbursed?
Or how about reimbursing me for the expensive out-of-state school I wanted to go to, instead of the local school I ultimately chose, because it was cheaper?
Every 4 years like clockwork, they promise to forgive student loans.
Then right after the election “oops the Supreme Court says we can’t...”
I got one. Last school i paid for myself. Java. Last loan was paid off in 1979. It was a PHEAA loan not federal. Direct mail mailing criteria must be registered republicans.
How about eligibility to occupy the office of Vice President/President? Will anyone be checking that?
I’m watching, looking for the reparation check, multiplied by today’s numbers since I PAID OFF MY STUDENT LOAN years ago when I couldn’t afford to…but I DID!
Unfortunately, In today’s America, personal responsibility and fiscal constraint are liabilities, The liberals insist on creating a world where everyone is helpless to solve their own problems (liberty) and are reliant on a government for survival and salvation.
It would be better if the Book of Proverbs were taught in school, or even Aesop’s Fables. At lest then we could reason our way to solutions without being compelled to depend on government.
Instead we get common core, DEI, victimhood, America hating curriculum that poisons young minds, The very first governmental office to close permanently should be the department of education. No more mandates from Sodom on the Potomac on what to teach our youth.
“Money can’t buy happiness but in Texas, it can sure buy votes.”
- Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In
By sending out “refunds” to people who don’t wish to pay their school loans, the government is signaling to all of us that it is still a broken system.
AGAIN. Where is this money coming from??
And this is a government that claims the Supreme Court is out of control. Projection.
Another democrat carrot on a stick gig always go after the young and dumb first.
Calling it student loan forgiveness but in reality it’s passing the debt onto the tax payer and your folks good way to find out no we’re not leaving the house to you.
check out this little blurb:
