Sir Keir Starmer's Labour government will not pursue an objection to the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Prosecutor Karim Khan KC applied for arrest warrants to be issued for Israel's prime minister and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar over alleged war crimes earlier this year.
But under Rishi Sunak's Tory government, the UK had considered challenging the right of the ICC to issue arrest warrants for Mr Netanyahu and Israel's defence minister, Yoav Gallant.
A Number 10 spokesperson said the government would not be pursuing the previous government's objection because it was matter for the court to decide on.
They said the government's decision as neither an objection or endorsement of the ICC's case against Mr Netanyahu.
"The government believes strongly in the rule of law and separation of powers," they said, adding that the court should make independent decisions.

I should’ve made my way over to London 20 years ago when I was hyped up for it but talked out of it. Have always wanted to visit London, home of my ancestors, and the beautiful countryside.
All the nazis are coming out of the woodwork
France is completely screwed for the same reason
If Hamas did to the UK what they did to Israel, the UK would pat them on their heads and offer up more of their wives and daughters and Charles would move out of Buckingham Palace for them. What the heck is wrong with this world?
Take a look at Whitechapel St. Jack the Ripper wouldn’t recognize the residents.
Some of the posts on this thread are quite bizarre, since they assume virtually the opposite of what’s happened here.
Keir Starmer, the new UK Prime Minister, is a long-time supporter of Israel and has vigorously defended Israel’s actions in Gaza - something which lost Labour a good few votes in the recent general election, and without which Labour’s majority would be even larger than it is.
One of Starmer’s first actions on becoming party leader was to purge the parliamentary Labour party of Corbyn and the antisemites. Starmer is married to a Jew, and his children are being brought up as observant Jews.
All that’s happened is that the UK is refusing to have anything to do with the ICC action. In no shape or form is the UK supporting the case against Netanyahu.
You left out the major issue with Labour and what’s left of the idiotic Tory Party, it’s the same issue with all of Europe and the USA.
It’s the unlimited illegal immigration of people from Africa and Islamic countries.
Labour like Democrats will do nothing to stop illegal immigration even though the UK is an Island, a 7-10 year run of Labour being in control and UK will be overrun with Muslims and reversing that is unlikely and if ever attempted will be UGLY and violent.
Sure, let whomever try to arrest the Prime Minister of Israel. See what happens to those that try.
Just a bunch of posturing and grandstanding by idiots who do not understand what they are up against. The Bible says that eventually Israel will have zero international friends. That will include even the United States at some point. That’s OK, Israel really isn’t alone.
Israel will still have God on her side. Whomever is a blessing to Israel will be blessed. Whomever is a curse to Israel will be cursed. That promise does not have an expiration date. Bad things have and will happen to every nation that opposes Israel.
Then maybe he should pursue an objection same as the US and tell them to shove it
“” Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government will not pursue an objection to the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
He’s a punk ass weakling
I didn’t ‘leave it out’...it has no direct relevance to the subject of the article, which is entirely concerned with Israel, Hamas, and the ICC, not immigration.
IMO, it has direct relevance to the future of the UK, when the cultural makeup of the country is in the process of being completely changed all due to politicians from both major parties and the changes will do nothing to advance democracy it will only serve to create violence and mayhem across a country that is our closest ally.
It is indeed of ‘direct relevance to the future of the UK’, as are many other issues. None of them, however, are the subject of this thread responding to this article, which is not about the ‘future of the UK’.
What’s the entire issue of ICC about ?? The Israeli war in Gaza, which involves Muslims, one of the UK’s biggest issues is the importation of radical Muslims and the problems that creates.
You can choose to ignore the issue but it’s totally relevant to the article in question
Of course they’re related in a very general sense that both concern conflict between Muslims and others: but not in the specific sense that British intervention in this case will have any effect, except negatively, on what happens at home. The ICC is going to condemn Netanyahu whatever. A British intervention would have zero influence on what the ICC decides: it would be an empty gesture which in no way would help Netanyahu or Israel. Its only effect would be an artificial political storm at home, coping with which would be a completely unnecessary diversion for a new government with much to do. In these circumstances ‘not our business’, however uncomfortable it may feel, is appropriate politics.
Ask yourself this hypothetical question, if Netanyahu showed up in London to address Parliament, would the Labour Government allow him to be taken into custody by the ICC ??
What influence would the Muslim population in the UK have on that decision and now add a few million more Muslims to the population of the UK thru unlimited immigration from Muslim majority countries and would the decision be any different
IMO, Netanyahu would not be safe in any country in Europe given the historical antisemitism that exists and the massive importation of Muslims in Europe
