J. D. Vance voted for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin in November 2016. He said this in 2021 in an interview with Time Magazine.
McMullin was on the ballot in 2016 in Kentucky. In Ohio he was a declared write-in candidate and he was credited with 12,574 votes. It is not clear which state Vance lived in at the time.
The mention of his 2016 vote is under “Vance’s Political Turn” in the first paragraph.
He has already apologized for this. Why are you helping Kamala?
So what?
He has long told us he didn’t support Trump at the time.
Some of the best Trump supporters are people who have seen the results.
We know.
Egg McMuffin.
Only the Devil doesn't allow conversion.
So what? Whole lot of the Conservatives did not like or trust Trump in 2016. Like many of them, Vance was won over by what he say Trump do in office.
BFD. Reagan voted for FDR.
Vance is not Swamp. Only a year or two in DC.
There are very few Republicans in that category, and that is the only category of consequence.
Yeah, and I voted for Ted Cruz in the primaries.
I couldn’t get over him donating to Ted Kennedy.
I was wrong, but it took giving Trump a chance to see HOW wrong.
OK, I get it. BUSTED: J.D. is really a double secret probation McMuffin voter!!
Please submit a dossier of your life so we may exam it for regrets you might have over things you have done, and decisions you have made. Yes, we already know about that time you bought a Sham Wow! microfiber wash cloth as advertised on TV. Absolutely nothing gets past us!
Oh no. He’s a dummy dressed in a smart suit.
I consider Trump to be the greatest president of the last century, but in 2016 I was temp banned twice here on FR for my negativity about him and would have voted third party if I wasn’t so concerned that Hillary might win.
So I understand how someone could be against him then and for him now. Typically it means focusing on what he was saying in the beginning, but then being able to focus on what he actually did as president.
A lot of people did a lot of things in 2016. Four years of Trump’s peace and prosperity changed millions of minds. I see no issue with Vance here.
I plugged my nose for Romney, Bushes, McCain. Big deal
I admit to being one of them, until Trump won the nomination and immediately started tearing into Hillary like nobody’s business.
BFD. Reagan voted for FDR.
**********
But Reagan then redeemed himself by fighting commies in Hollywood, serving as a Republican governor of California, and waging a conservative campaign for President in 1976.
Lets get it right. Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegals. Trump would never do that.
“Some of the best Trump supporters are people who have seen the results.”
I’m one of them. In 2016, I was a very committed Cruz supporter. I couldn’t warm up to Trump. I wasn’t convinced of his policy positions. I questioned his sincerity.
I was gonna vote third party. About a week before the election, I realized the most important thing:
A third party vote WAS a vote for Hillary Clinton.
I have not regretted voting for Trump. And likely never will.
And Trump donated to Kamala Harris, one upon a time.
Donald Trump had no record to evaluate. I was pretty unclear what four years of Trump would look like.
Turned out, Trump was the best President in the last 100 years .
