Sunday was the hottest day recorded on Earth, EU climate monitor says
The Boston Globe ^ | July 23, 2024 | By Eamon Akil Farhat and Paul Tugwell

The world recorded its hottest ever day, as many parts of the Mediterranean face extreme wildfire risks.

Sunday witnessed the highest average temperature on Earth, breaching a previous record set a year ago, according to provisional data from the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.

Global average temperatures have already hit or exceeded a key climate threshold for 12 months, highlighting the challenge in limiting global warming to below 1.5C above the pre-industrial era. Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of heat waves, bringing extreme weather events from flooding to wildfires.

Extreme heat has wreaked havoc across many parts of the global economy already this year, disrupting air travel to power grids.

The average temperature for the year through June 2024 was 1.64C higher than the era from 1850 to 1900, according to Copernicus. Last month was the hottest ever June, the 13th consecutive time a month has set a new average temperature record.

Oh, B.S.

We’re having overall cooler than normal weather so far in Texas this summer.

And Baghdad, Iraq hit a high of 108° Sunday. That’s early autumn weather.

It has to be a result of the rapid increase in the use and generation of power for EVs and the increase in mining for battery production < /sarcasm >.

Hmm, why do they always pick the average temperature from 1850 to 1900 instead of a rolling average of say the last 10 years ???

Why don't they ever pick temperatures from 1743 or 1655 or 490 or 35 BC?

Because there's no way to know which means the claim hottest day recorded is ridiculous on its face.

They need to account for the Milankovitch cycle of polar precession. As such, one wonders are we just coming out of a glaciation cycle for warmer weather naturally due to the way the Milankovitch cycle works.

The world recorded its hottest ever day

Ever?

Ever is a long time. A lot longer than temperatures have been recorded.

I mean, a LOT.

If every country on Earth confiscated every penny beyond bare subsistence from every person and spent it all on “climate"

... they would send it to foreign lands and green projects, which you and I both know means the money would be routed back to themselves.

One day long long after all of us here are dead the sun will expand to become a red giant star engulfing the earth completely. That’s when it will get really hot by my estimation. For the human race to survive by that point we’ll have to have moved on to some other planet or star system. Run that by the climate changers for them to muse on.
