A Microsoft global outage has wreaked havoc across America, locking countless individuals out of their bank accounts, causing hospital cancelations and even grounding flights.
The notorious Blue Screen of Death is popping up everywhere, from banks to supermarkets and media outlets, causing widespread panic and confusion. All United, Delta and American Airlines flights were grounded amid the chaos.
Microsoft has issued a statement on the issue. “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions,” Microsoft said on X this morning. “We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue.”
Crowdstrike has also issued a statement on the ongoing IT outage. CEO George Kurtz said on X: "CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack.

My daughter was off work today for activities with my granddaughter, got repeated calls from co-workers at her I.T. company. Thankfully, her coding work is primarily Apple Mac centered which weren’t affected. But she said many Windows machines were down as they rely on Crowdstrike, and techs would need to personally go to each remote machine to reset them because it can’t be done remotely. Ouch.
microsoft’s statement has ‘continue’ 4 times. So, yeah, it’s continuing.
Yup, pushed to production an update that was absolute garbage and wiped out systems worldwide.
Hospitals, banks, airports, credit cards, ATM’s, etc.
Anything using Crowdstrike enterprise antivirus went into a blue screen reboot loop.
So while it’s possible to mass brick computers remotely, fixing this is on a computer by computer process.
Sounds like Kamala Harris wrote it.
Crowdstrike. My daughter’s I.T. company works with them. Lots of Russians work with her to the point she has learned a lot of Russian, a lot of which is swearing when problems happen. She said Crowdstrike did not test their upgrade before release, causing problems.
Crowdstrike and its insurers are going to be paying out a lot of money in damages.
Back in the old days when I ran Microsoft products, I never let automatic updates run.... Always gave several days for the suckers to run the new code and report any bugs (or ‘features’) that crashed the system.

Crowdstrike distributed what amounts to a heuristics signature file update, which ties into their nextgen av that runs in the Windows O/S kernel. So, it loads into memory even before the GUI does. That file (it’s just one file) was bad, so the Windows kernel code is corrupt even before it gets started, hence the BSOD.
There are other products that do the same kind of thing (Cylance, Sentinel One, others). Taken on a single device, it is frustrating, but easily fixable. If you have say 10,000 business critical VMs running in your data center....not so much.
Mrs. Vance didn’t seem too impressed with comments directed toward her and the VP nominee by Trump in his speech last night. I thought she looked kind of offended by his words. It was when Trump mentioned they (her and her husband) had “both met at Yale Law School and were “both very bright people”. I wonder just how much this woman is on-board with MAGA.
Many years ago, I worked with some professional people who had accepted top-level appointments in the Reagan Administration. They were Americans. They always were most appreciative and gracious in regards to Reagan’s public remarks about them. It just went with the territory where loyalty to the boss was implied, as well as tacit.
