Trump said that he is not a supporter of sanctions against Russia
US presidential candidate Donald Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg that he is not a supporter of sanctions.
“I don’t like sanctions,” he said, commenting on the policy of the current White House administration towards Russia.
At the same time, as the agency specifies, the former president made it clear that he is equally cool to the idea of protecting Taiwan from a possible invasion of mainland China and attempts to “punish” Russia for the special operation in Ukraine.

If China really wants to go after after Taiwan...they'll have it. That's just a fact. Would Taiwan be worth starting a nuclear event over? I'm not so sure. The current countries we know largely came about due to war/conflict. Perhaps that's just the way of things.
China is playing the long game since they have that ability. They don't have the changes in elected officials every few years, and we can't even get our elected officials to follow the desires of their constituencies half of the time.

The Russians have been also impacted, but far - far less than some had hoped for and predicted. They have something which others need, not want, but need: oil and gas. Most of what the Russians lost in gas and oil sales to the West or those aligned with us, they have made up by increases in sales to India and China, which have masterfully used this crisis to their advantage and set in place long term low cost oil and gas deals with Russia.
Sanctions like these in place follow the following logic: I’m going to hurt myself also, but hopefully much less than the other guy who will bleed out before me. They are inherently a lose - lose situation.
For someone that thinks like Trump, growth oriented, sanctions are inherently a bad thing. They may be a necessary evil, but they are not desired.

Well he’s not wrong about the distance factor with Taiwan. IF China goes in it would be over long before we could respond even if we want to. We are certainly not invading after the fact to take it back. IDK if we even could.

The American response is not 9500 miles from Taiwan.
Russia is also a massive grain and other agricultural producer/exporter. It is essentially the bread basket of the Eastern Hemisphere.
Russia has benefited from the sanctions.

Oil sells itself and there are no shortages of buyers for it. The stupid Europeans are still getting more than half of their oil from Russia via third parties and paying more of it.
Most importantly, the sanction war forced rich Russian oligarchs to keep their money within Russia.
It's past time to stop defending failed, Biden regime policies.
A war with Taiwan would kill tens of thousands leave Taiwan in rumble. That certainly isn't going to benefit those living there.

Why should we be sanctioning a government that’s far less of a threat to what America should be than our own?

They are not giving it the credit or value it deserves, remember how big the story was when these sanctions were put in place? Now with the sanctions basically being a bust in terms of really damaging the Russian economy, they get little coverage.
Sanctions are a lose-lose proposition, and it would make sense for Trump to end this stupidity too, since it’s PROVEN to be ineffective at this point. But this is also a matter of public opinions and perceptions and folks will attack Trump as being sympathetic to the Russians even if he’s actually acting in OUR best economic interest as well.
(1) Dissipate the cause of this war: We give the Russians what they want. Yes, you heard that right, give them what they want, No NATO on their border other than what already is.
The prospect of nukes, hyper-sonic missiles with 6 minutes time of flight to Moscow, missile defense, Western forces being stationed in large numbers on their border long term... doesn't turn them on. And do you blame them? Would you want that done to us? Of course not.
(2) End this stupid ass war by making Ukraine negotiate in earnest.
(3) Let Ukraine have elections. Let Mr. Z move on. He's hated in Ukraine and only a hero in the West, with us having put him in power and propping him up. That's why we were 100% on board with Mr Z canceling the elections (I thought this war is about Democracy? LOL). We knew he'd be toast if that happens.
(4) End the sanctions. Everyone loses with those, literally.
(5) Try to create a long term big picture stability: Readdress the Conventional Forces Europe, Ballistic Missile Treaty and no NATO East expansion (new versions of them and make the later promise formal). Attempt to make formal, public, international agreements, with procedures for a remedy to a problem in place. HEAD IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SINCE 2004: create dialog and mutual engagement, creating trust, and deescalation, methods to address a dispute, a punishment/cost for violating it...
If you really want to get down to it, and the hard core Russian hating folks here aren't going to accept this, this entire war in Ukraine, the dead, crippled, trillions in wealth lost, millions of refugees, the increased risk in a nuclear conflict, increase in proxy threats around the world is all simply because we chose to ignore Russia and do whatever we want. They do not contribute to election campaigns nor donate big to the parties nor form a PAC. This war is the consequence of the West having “interests” that are unchecked. We act with impunity. The Russian voice is missing. China has a voice. That is why you see this HUGE difference in how we deal with Russia vs. China, even though it is China which poses a larger national security threat to us, it is China that is far-far worse in terms of human rights, democracy, and all the other horse shit we pretend are the motivation for our involvement in Ukraine.
