Elon Musk said on Tuesday he is moving the headquarters of two more of his companies - social media platform X and rocket company SpaceX - to Texas from California, citing a new gender-identity law there as the "last straw."
With these steps, the billionaire, who last week endorsed Republican Donald Trump for U.S. president, will have relocated Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab and most of the businesses he controls or heads to Texas.
The world's richest man, he changed his own residence in 2021 from California to Texas, where there is no state income tax on individuals.
A new California law that forbids school districts from requiring teachers to notify parents when a child changes gender identity or sexual orientation helped spur Tuesday's announcement, Musk said.
"Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies," Musk, who has a transgender daughter, said in explaining the decision on X - formerly Twitter - which he bought in 2022.

Politicos in CaCaLand do not think laws apply to them; like laws on sexism and racism. Like all commie trash they think that they know better. And, if not that, it don’t matter since they have the power and YOU are a peasant.
Wise decision.
So now in California , if a child has gender dysphoria school officials are not allowed to discuss it with parents.
Is there any other medical or mental health condition which school officials are not allowed to discuss with parents of the child?
Parents do not have a right to know this information about their own children? Gavin Newsom knows better than parents as to how to handle gender dysphoria in children?
California will pass a law saying YOU CAN’T LEAVE
California will pass a law saying YOU CAN’T LEAVE
NJ beat them to it. If you sell a home in NJ but do not buy another within the state, you are hit with an additional tax.
A coworker experienced this relocating from NJ to FL.
Knowing California they will pass a law taxing them anyway!
LMAO
lIberals always make the same mistake: they think they can enact harmful, punitive laws against sectors of the population, and those targeted will just stand there and absorb the blow. They never get that people are active agents in their own interests, not just stationary NPCs, and we react when they try to hurt us.
Wasn’t Rush constantly charged taxes in New York even after he moved EIB to Fla?
I think they audited him yearly and shook him down over supposed owed taxes. Can’t recall if he ever paid any.
Sorry, but Texas doesn’t have the housing for more. We certainly don’t need any more Californicans bleeping up the state.
Well, he might be sincere. Or he might be sincere and using this as an excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway- with some added publicity. For him I imagine it makes sense to move all the best programmers and engineers to the same campus. Why keep X and Space X and Tesla in silos spread across the country when they would have much more synergy if they were all co-located and able to contribute to other projects as needed or called upon.
Not to mention, California taxes and regulations and cost of living. Not just policy, but policy and every other reason.
Are you trying to say CA is going to be a Hotel California?
Musk once again putting his money where his mouth is. Way to go Elon, I support this 1000%.
So that’s where he’s getting the $45 Million per month to finance his Trump campaign. Thanks CA!
EC
Does anyone know where he is relocating these companies?
Yeah, no state tax in Texas, but he might want to build his own power plant
I think he is already doing that. His stated goal is to have all his factories self-sufficient in energy use. Already achieved that in a couple factories with solar and batteries. Problem is a lot of acreage dedicated to flat solar panels, besides roof tops. I think he may achieve his goal when solar energy capture technology gets better, as in flexible capture not dependent on flat panels, can cover sides and curved areas with higher capture rates.
They TRIED to tax such awhile back-—
THROWN OUT OF COURT.
