House Republican members on the Oversight Committee said Tuesday the Department of Homeland Security has taken over communications between the committee and the U.S. Secret Service and refuses to confirm a time for a briefing that was supposed to take place today.
The interposition by the Department of Homeland Security comes as Congress is seeking answers from the Secret Service about the security failure at Donald Trump's July 13 rally in Pennsylvania where an attempt was made on the former president's life. The USSS had previously agreed to brief the committee Tuesday.
"After the Secret Service agreed to brief members of the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security took over communications with the Committee and has since refused to confirm a briefing time. The Oversight Committee has a long record of bipartisan oversight of the Secret Service and the unprofessionalism we are witnessing from current DHS leadership is unacceptable," a spokeswoman for the Oversight Committee said in a statement shared with Just the News Tuesday.
"While the Secret Service confirmed Director Cheatle is expected to appear for the Committee’s hearing on July 22, to head off any attempt by DHS to backtrack on her appearance, the Chairman will issue a subpoena for her to attend. Director Cheatle must answer to Congress and the American people about the historic failure that occurred on her watch," she added.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Amen to that.

It seems to me like it’s 14 ways to Sunday now.
They won't.
Trump should have been taken off the stage the second they knew of any threat from any rooftop. Then neutralize the threat before the rally could continue. It’s secret service 101 to at the very least do that. That they didn’t do so is beyond ludicrous and she thinks she should still keep her job? Obviously they wanted him to take a bullet or two to the head.
This whole thing is so ridiculous it’s making my brain hurt. But then it’s deep state democrats that always make my brain hurt anyway. We’re living in a deep state democrat coup that’s been ongoing since the steal of 2020. Now they’re trying to kill our candidate because they can’t beat him.
Send them a stern letter. That will catch their attention.
Considering the fact that SS is part of DOJ, not DHS, this is a puzzling article to say the least.
John Solomon is usually far more buttoned down.
Old Roosterhead is a POS.
Great deconstruction
<><>It’s elemental S/S 101, at the very least, to remove Trump from possible harm.
<><>That they didn’t do so is beyond ludicrous.
<><>Cheatle thinks she should still keep her job?
<><>she dictated she would not endanger agents on a “sloped roof”
<><>but ok’ed Trump getting a bullet or two to the head.
LOL
however, the bigger question that needs to be asked, regardless of '2 minutes' or '26 minutes' is.,,,
Why was Trump held upright and immobile for 1.5 minutes after a head shot - protecting his torso but leaving his head and face exposed for most of that time? Why didn't the SS turn Trump into a moving target, keeping him down and dragging him or overboarding him if necessary to mitigate risk of a possible accomplice? Were the agents That confident there was only one shooter??? Why did an agent break away to throw his shoe off the stage? enquiring minds want to know
It is a coverup.
It is becoming obvious that, at a minimum, the Regime allowed the shooting, and at worst, they participated in the assassination attempt.
I would subpoena people who saw and recorded the shooter, those who contacted authorities and then local police. I would get what they were told to do by the secret service. I would find out who they reported the shooter to. Ask what they were told to do. Subpoena any body cam footage. Then start subpoenaing the secret service agents who were there and the ones who were given the day off. Build the case from the ground up. Then subpoena higher ups, culminating with Cheatle.
Hold on a minute. None of the agents were using steroids, so there is nothing to investigate.
That’s brilliant
We could save a lot of time and effort if we just locked up every senior official of these federal agencies and then investigated to determine if any of them were innocent and could therefore be released. I suspect the guard at the exit gate to that prison would be as bored as the Maytag repairman.
I like that idea.

_____________
Solomon is correct. USSS used to be part of Treasury; however, was moved to DHS in 2003.

And if she tries that, hold her in contempt of Congress and jail her until she gets her mind right. That “ongoing investigation” nonsense doesn’t wash. It’s only policy, not law. Time to stop letting them get away with using it as a shield against accountability.
No, the USSC has been part of DHS since 2003. Before that, it was part of Treasury Dept. It had been Treasury because it’s primary function was protecting the currency and the national financial networks, before VIP protection was added in 1902 after the assination of President McKinley.
