It was a grey, drizzly Monday on March 30, 1981, when President Reagan emerged from the Washington Hilton hotel, heading back to his presidential limousine parked a few yards away.
His inauguration had been only a few weeks before and he'd just finished speaking at a lunch of US labor union leaders.
Along with the rest of the White House press corps I was about 20 feet away, roped off from the President. Suddenly, just as one of our number shouted a question for him, shots rang out.
In a split second, a burly Secret Service agent brusquely bundled Reagan into the limo, another pushed his colleague hard to ensure both he and the President were flat on the back seat.
The limo was surrounded by agents, guns drawn, the would-be assassin wrestled to the ground by the public as well as law enforcement. Reagan's vehicle sped off.
Within four minutes it was at George Washington Hospital, even though, not initially realizing the President had been hit (a bullet had entered his rib cage), the Secret Service had at first started out for the White House.
Reagan was close to death on arrival. But he survived, thanks in no small part to the speedy response of the Secret Service, which thwarted the shooter.
Now consider what happened when Donald Trump was shot on Saturday night.
The initial response was by the book. Brave agents piled on him to protect him from further bullets. They kept him down until they were told the shooter had been killed.

Trump turned his head a bit at the last second and that saved him from having his brains blown out. The kid’s aim was on target but he fired a millisecond too late and tore a hole in the top of the ear instead.
[Complete BS. Negates the entire reason for the existence of the secret service. Are they assuming the first shot will always miss? Or that they can just all stand around with their thumbs in their asses while an assassin takes out their charge?
Anyone too stupid to reject this excuse needs to go rent a second brain cell.]
“Thanks to Floyd, we’ve seen a violent felon’s death from drug overdose send four cops to prison for multiple decades each, while sending their families into bankruptcy. Putting a civilian down who turned out not to be an assassin could have catastrophic personal consequences. Qualified immunity is not a theoretical issue to a police sniper, given the generally lethal or catastrophically injurious nature of what they are tasked with doing.”
It is my understanding (which may not be correct) that Floyd was unarmed and that Chauvin was seen by the jury to have impeded his rescue by a woman who might have been able to save him.
Black Lives Matter people know that when a member of the public clearly has a gun and might be able to kill an officer, that member of the public might quickly be shot.
My former landlady had a friend whose boyfriend was shot dead by police in Virginia because he was coming down stairs at least a dozen feet away with a knife.
It looks like he’s sitting on top of something that gives him a view of the grass below.
It would be good to know the details of who took that photo and where/how.
Ya know, the reports are saying that somebody in the building took a photo of him, IIRC. Maybe this is the photo that they took of him, outside the building.

Crooks generally fit the “school shooter” type profile – kids at his HS used to joke about it. But the fact that they considered it a joke meant that they didn’t really take it seriously. He was a little bit strange, a little bit nerdy but probably 99 out of 100 guys with his profile never cross the line. Maybe a little bit of a tweak in his brain chemistry and he would have finished his degree and gotten a decent job as his brain continued to mature further. In the current environment, a girlfriend was probably beyond his reach but there are millions of incels who never go postal.
One of Crooks’s friends from the math club at his community college said that when Crooks’s name was revealed, he texted Crooks to say, “hey, someone must have stolen your wallet” because he couldn’t imagine that it was actually him. And then he saw the photos of the guy on the roof and he knew that it was. His friend thought that Crooks was on the way to having a real life and that this was really “suicide by cop”.
“If the command and control worked properly President Trump would have been hustled off the stage.”
If the command and control worker properly, PDJT wouldn’t even have been ON the stage yet. They started watching and following the guy when he entered the grounds a half-hour earlier because he was “suspicious”. Then the dumbasses “LOST” him.
Instead of delaying Trump’s entrance until they FOUND him, they let Trump go to the platform as originally scheduled.
Almost like it had been planned ahead of time. .../s
” hire Dan Bongino to reform the Secret Service.”
And Erik Prince to head up DHS.

As I have thought more about this in discussions here I am now convinced that communications on site (LEO, SS) were jammed in some way:
https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology/jamx-22
The cop should have fired his weapon regardless
“a source within the Secret Service community tells RealClearPolitics that the agency rules of engagement in this situation are to wait until the president is fired upon to return fire.”
Yesterday, Dan Bongino, who personally guarded Obama and Bush while in the SS, gave a pretty good rundown on the whole situation. He said this is absolutely positively BS. If an agent assesses there is an immediate threat of death or great harm, the Agent MUST shoot first.
I looked at the article I read before, at https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/alleged-trump-shooter-spotted-by-law-enforcement-nearly-30-minutes-before-shots-fired-sources-say/Q6GIK5RP6RBY5PHIMYBNXRTEBI/?outputType=amp and it said that a photo was taken of Crooks 26 minutes before the shots were fired, scoping out the roof. It says it was unclear whether he had his rifle at that point.
So I’m not sure when he was seen having the depth-finder and being on the roof.
We do know that he was on the roof and being called out by rally attendees several minutes before the shots were fired, and the SS snipers on the roof had him in their sights for at least 50 seconds before the shots were fired. Which is quite a bit of time.
“I am now convinced that communications on site (LEO, SS) were jammed in some way”
Possible. I’m not even kidding. The goofballs in the old Keystone Cops films had it more together than these guys did on Saturday.
“to see something”
Trump’s head - ~12 inches in size
sniper rifle - ~3 feet in length
Counter-snipers know what a rifle looks like.

The guy was with other press people in a known press area.
Look at the well known film of the women SS agents on stage.
They were totally confused—had no idea what to do next.
That means nobody was on their comms giving them instructions.

I think it’s hilarious that each side is going to try to pin this guy on the other side – He’s antifa, no he’s a gun nut, he donated $15 to the Biden campaign, no he’s a registered Republican. He’s a homo, a tranny, a child molester, a Jesus freak, etc.
My prediction is that his guy was a lone wolf/ nut case and therefore it’s stupid (not politically – politically it’s shrewd) to try to associate him with any particular cause, especially not based on what shirt he was wearing.
“Bongino is no longer Secret Service.”
True. But he’s very well connected with people who still are.
“Screw up”
Biden’s future is now at stake because a security person did not do a sufficient job and a very nice man in the crowd got killed. It was not just Trump at risk, every person in the crowd was at risk.
“Let me close with this. Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation. That is not hyperbole. He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy. He is literally a threat to the America that we stand for.”
Joe Biden
Quotes:
the judge said, Trump’s words were “an implicit call for imminent violence or lawlessness” that is not protected by presidential immunity or the First Amendment.
The D.C. Circuit agreed with the lower court’s finding
Pennsylvania authorities should submit a case to a grand jury.
If the grand jury returns an indictment, Pennsylvania should endeavor to legally secure Biden’s residences and get an injunction barring the US government from flying him outside the USA.
