I don’t think that Vance adds anything electorally, and that’s still job one (President Trump looks like a heavy favorite right now, but we need to keep running as if it’s still a toss-up election): President Trump would carry OH handily no matter whom he picked as his runningmate, and Vance add value in PA, MI or WI, either. At least Youngkin would make VA even more competitive than it already has become (and if Trump carries VA, he doesn’t need PA, MI, WI or probably not even AZ) and help Trump in the suburbs in every battleground state; Vance is popular among a constituency that, while important, is already 100% behind Trump.
JD Vance’s wife, Usha, comes from an impressive Indian background.
I see a lot of people on twitter not love the pick for various reasons. I’m liking it.
Doubling down worked for Clinton/Gore, lets not forget the “blue wall” of PA/MI/WI is the ball game both for the WH and a larger Senate majority. Trump has long appealed to the “forgotten” blue collar man but Vance COMES from that background. His life story is powerful, young black men won’t hear how he was raised by grandma and see themselves? And the age thing, honestly that might the compliment that Trump could use the most.
And I care about the succession, we now have a very smart, young guy in that position.
I’d have been fine with Youngkin or Rubio (would he have resigned the Senate?) as well. I’m glad it’s not Burgum.
