The 55 grain rounds used in Vietnam in the 1/12 twist barrels were more effective because they were barely stabilized and tumbled through flesh. The current 62 AP was lamented in Somalia because it just punched holes in the enemy and did not kill effectively. (source: "Ammo Oracle)
