Honestly, I haven’t paid close attention to the news coverage (I figure early reports will not be accurate) so maybe this has been discussed, but I haven’t seen it —
When JFK was killed, there was discussion about the difficulty of the shot and Oswald’s level of skill with that rifle. There were questions about whether he could have done what they said he did. In that incident, there was speculation of a second gunman.
With Trump, I would not guess a second gunman. But it seems like a relatively long shot for a 20-year old Leftist. Yeah, he missed, but he got darn close to a headshot on his first shot. That seems remarkable. Was this kid just a kid? Or is there more to it? I’ve seen some people say that he was not, in fact, a 20-year-old kid.
IMO the distance wasn’t anything special.
If the guy had a .30-06 with a scope that had been sighted in, the 45th President would be dead right now.
It was a fairly easy shot at 150 yards. To put it in perspective, army recruits shoot targets between 50 and 300 yards consistently, after just one day of rifle training. Its an absolute miracle he missed. In the JFK scenario, he was in a moving car - very different level of difficulty.
I think the witnesses who pointed him out and were yelling made him hurry - possibly saving the president’s liife.
For a Marine, 130 yards is "bayonet range".
In his short, pathetic life Lee Harvey Oswald did two things successfully; He shot and killed President JFK, wounded the Governor of Texas John Connally and shot and killed Dallas Police Officer JD Tippit and he became a United States Marine. It's my understanding that you don't get "The Globe and Anchor by being a pretty good shot. You become a Marine by picking up that weapon and hitting the target. Oswald did that.

The first two pops are way to close together to be from the same semi-auto, in my opinion. I think the kid was told to shoot into the crowd and a better shooter tried to take out trump. Then Jack ruby takes out the patsy.
I’m 70 with bad eyes. I can make that shot all day long with iron sights.
The Kennedy shot was around 70 yards. Not long. Trump’s assassin was 130 yards away. I have shot a 12 inch plate at 290 yards on my first shot with a 308. Never had attempted that long a shot ever before with that rifle. Oswald was hitting a target at 200 yards with open sights. He was a good shot.
A 10 y.o. could hit a target at 130 yards with an AR.
