Trump was on the stage for a long time. I assume the ss shot the shooter immediately after he shot at Trump.

If that is true - then agents watched him shoot Trump and then took him out after the shots.
Have you seen the BBC interview of a man stating he saw the shooter two minutes before the shots - he tried and tried to get Secret Service attention. They ignored him. They did nothing though the eyewitness pointing again and again.
So. If the Secret Service killed the shooter immediately - they watched him do it.
