Biden was raspy, mumbly, but mostly fine. That’s the worst scenario for Democrats | Opinion
The Miami Herald ^ | July 11, 2024 | By Ryan J. Rusak

Democrats’ worst nightmares about President Joe Biden’s suddenly crucial news conference Thursday came true:

It went fine.

That’s not to say Biden dazzled in what was billed as a “big boy” news conference, his first such appearance with reporters in months. He talked for about an hour and was mostly coherent. We saw plenty of word slurring, rhetorical cul-de-sacs that would make even Donald Trump blush, and the requisite angry-Grandpa Simpson moment.

But Biden didn’t make a major gaffe, wasn’t hopelessly lost, didn’t try to address any dead world leaders and didn’t repeat many of the foibles Democrats pretended not to notice until his awful debate performance two weeks ago.

What Democrats needed out of this was one of those moments, something they could show Biden, his family and his advisers to finally convey how bad the situation is. Something that even the most loyal Bidenite could look at and say: There’s no coming back from this.

The more it appears that Biden is walled off from all but his most trusted relatives and aides, that information is predigested for him, that the work of the presidency is being done by others, the more other Democrats will suffer.

It’s increasingly clear that if Biden isn’t up for another term, he isn’t up for the tremendous daily drain of the presidency. If something catastrophic happens as a result, Democrats up and down the ballot will pay the price.

So, they need Biden to show in public that he’s truly done. The longer he muddles along, the worse it gets for his party.

Was it followed by a fiery but mostly peaceful protest?

The Deep State was hoping Biden would crash and burn. He (mostly) muddled through, which is NOT what they wanted. The Bidenistas are still in power.

This is where the Captain Queeg analogy works so well.

Everybody knows the guy has lost it but we are still in the middle of the movie and strawberries just got put on the desert menu.

President Trump thinks correctly and NOW has the experience (he always had the balls) to DO something about our problems.

Didn’t make any major gaffes!?

I guess the author is hoping/assuming his readers didn’t watch that train-wreck.

He wasn’t mostly fine. He was a complete mess. He could not complete a fleshed out train of thought response to any question. He would try to answer a question and before he completed a full response, he would randomly in the middle of the second or third sentence say, “Well anyway” and start off in a completely different direction that wasn’t related to the asked question.

The creepy whispering, is creepy and scary for our nation.

Why does Biden put his head down until he is just about kissing the low microphones and then talk in a sinister whisper with a Joker grin?

It is really creepy.

As these things go, it was one of Joe Biden’s better performances. But by now, the bar is set so low as to make that virtually imperceptible.

In the course of a horrible wasting disease, there comes a point of inevitability, with little time left. There are no miracle cures, there is no redemption, and there is no way to turn.

I have been anticipating Joe Biden just coming apart and going splatt. Are we there yet?
