We need to run Joe! He won the primaries and he has cash!
No! No! No! That would be a disaster! We need to run Kamala! She has access to the cash and she isn’t senile!
No! No! No! That would be a disaster! We need to run Hillary! She’s experienced!
No! No! No! That would be a disaster! We need to run Michelle! She’s a super minority!
No! No! No! That would be a disaster! We need to run Newsome! He has great hair!
On the Republican side, the thinking goes like this:
Trump is awesome.
And according to some of the polls, the race is currently pretty tied. Pretty even. Hard to know which party will win.

President Joe Biden’s campaign has already suffered a major slowdown in donations and officials are bracing for a seismic fundraising hit, with fallout from a debate nearly two weeks ago taking a sizable toll on operations, according to four sources close to the re-election effort.
“It’s already disastrous,” one of the sources close to Biden’s re-election said of fundraising. “The money has absolutely shut off” to the Biden campaign, another source close to Biden’s re-election said. Biden resigns or is forced out, and Kamala becomes POTUS. She's ditzy and not well liked, so she appoints Hillary as VP. Hillary's experience as First Lady, Senator, and SOS will add "gravitas" and experience to Kamala's administration. They can use Biden's campaign war chest without any issues.
After they win the election, of course, anything is possible.
What's the main obstacle? Obama, of course. Hillary will have to cut a deal with him, and I'm skeptical she can do it.

Nobody really likes Hillary. Even her allies fear and despise her. I can’t see anyone actually wanting her to replace Biden. Although I can see her forcing her way into the fray.
